4SC scans

How does a bulk submitter and high volume seller still manage to have such garbage scans? Scans are always blurry and you can zoom or maximize. If the scans are going to be that bad, why not just use eBay mobile to list cards and use a pic with any smartphone? They take better pics than 4SC's scanner.

    I have always wondered same. Not sure why they don't have a scanner with CCD element

    Agree that scans on website are a little larger.

    Even with the low quality scans I have bought from them several times and been happy

    It's 2015. Is someone can't get a high res scan of their card, it's by design; if it's blurry...run in a hurry.
    Collecting PSA 9's from 1970-1977. Raw 9's from 72-77. Raw 10's from '78-'83.
    Collecting Unopened from '72-'83; mostly BBCE certified boxes/cases/racks.
    Prefer to buy in bulk.

    I wish they would scan the backs though I understand they do so much volume it would be a huge undertaking. However, you think they'd at least do so for the $1k+ valued cards. I've ended up with a few garbage 9s that had stains on the back. I still buy from them though. Sometimes I just don't feel like waiting around for a year or two for a particular card to hit the market by someone other than 4SC.

    I have passed on quite a few cards of theirs because of the low quality scans.

    I have still bought more than a few of their cards as well!

    But...their scans are awful. I hate having to email them asking, "on such and such card, is that a print dot?"

    I don't like how they have cards that are slightly OC and the card is usually pushed to one side of the holder. Can't say they do this on purpose??

    I have bought a ton from them, with very few problems. Some of their 10's barely meet the centering guidelines for a 10, but if you wait it out usually they list a better example.
    Always looking for OPC "tape intact" baseball wax boxes, and 1984 OPC baseball PSA 10's for my set. Please PM or email me if you have any available.

    fantastic post, i agree totally. other big sellers, not mentioning any names, don't let you zoom in either. i sell and i do.

    I don't understand why any seller posts scans that don't allow you to "zoom" in, especially on raw cards. Poor scans bother me too.

    When I see this kind of poor image, I usually feel the seller is trying to hide something?!?!?!?!?!?

    to me it's a brilliant strategy and it appears to be working from everyone's comments:

    1. use low pro, crap scans on ebay and charge shipping
    2. this make customers wanna see better scan or possible zoom in on a particular part of the card (or see back scans)
    3. said customer navigates to their site.
    4. customer see's they save cash and usually get free shipping
    5. 4sc saves money on ebay fees.

    win, win.

    I passed on at least 20 cards in the last week because of pour scans. It seems every card I've searched for lately was theirs and I passed because of the scans. If you ask for a better scan or even a back scan of a high dollar card, your request gets ignored. Just hope they aren't consignments that are costing the owners money.

    I've noticed they have seemed to be going the Dean's Cards route as far as pricing. An example I just looked at is a 1961 Fleer Oscar Robertson PSA 7. Deans has one listed for $1050 and 4SC just listed one for $999 and average VCP is $576.

    4SC is trolling PSA set registry collectors with their pricing these days. Huge mark up on PSA 10 graded cards simply because they have(relatively) low populations. Commons that you couldn't give away in raw condition. It's silly and I think in the long run they are costing themselves money.

    I disagree. 4SC is pricing things exactly the way they need to in order to maximize profits. They start very high. But, if the card doesn't sell, they come down a bit, maybe 10%. And this trend continues. Eventually, a card that started at $100 might be $18 or so, but their theory is that someone will pull the trigger when the magic price is reached. So, they'll come down a little at a time until the deal becomes too hard to resist. I have no issue with it, and if I was running it I would price things the exact same way.

    I have noticed that as well. The price will drop over time if they dont get a buyer. Their usually decently priced ,but they do have a few low pops that are a bit laughable for the cost.

    Overall I've been happy with my purchases from them though. >>

    They do drop their prices to a certain extent..ive watched some cards for over 3 years that haven't had a price drop and still way over vcp for a graded common. Don't know who is going to give.
    Interested in higher grade vintage cards. Aren't we all. image

    Let's just say it's not an oversight. ..

    Anyone else notice that 4SC's recently graded cards are still using the old flip without the hologram? I have had some recent cards come back with serial numbers starting with 242XXXXX and 243XXXXX that have the new flip. I also had some re-holders come back with the new flip. I have seen some on their site starting with 244XXXXX that still have the old flip. I thought everything was getting the new flip now.
