Belgian "Congo Free State" holed coin copper type set (1887-1888)

About 3 years ago, I decided to put together a small type collection of the copper coinage of Belgian "Congo Free State". The set consists of the 1, 2, 5, and 10 centimes coins, all of which feature the "holed" design. After 18 months of searching, I completed the set in high condition, and present it below for your pleasure. The 10 centimes was by far the most difficult to find in the condition I wanted. These are very beautiful copper coins, but from an historical time of much despair and horrible treatment and conditions of the Congolese people.

Very nice set. The history of the Free Congo as a private colony of Leopold II makes for very sad reading.

I like the color of the 1887 2c.

The slight "off-centeredness" of the hole in the 1c is fun, too.
