    I really enjoy this series-

While my experience is likely different than most, I see the 1955 with the type I reverse as the most difficult to obtain in GEM Red.

  • Yes, it's a quite difficult coin to find, definitely one of the hardest up there with the 1951. I just only added a 1955 NGC MS 63 KM#440 to my collection, but still don't have a KM# 439.

I have only submitted a 1951- there are others I would have that are worthy of submission, including a 1955 km439, which likely will grade 65 or 66. The 51 graded 66

Mr. Smith - very nice write up. I enjoyed the stories w/in the story. I agree that the coin highly resembles the US Coat of Arms. I also believe that it was no accident.

My 1960 example is on its way to our host where I think it will make 66Red.

Thanks. Yeah, I just posted to that thread earlier about how the older style of the Silver Libertad also resembles the American Silver Eagle.

...although I should have used this style as the example:

also to note that the volcanoes in the background of the Libertad are also Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl

The 1921 two pesos would get my vote as the finest 20th century design (for 20th century Mexican coinage)- I suspect this coin will continue to gain in popularity and value in GEM

Very nice! I love this coin design as well. I have several of these but have not really focused on collecting them.
I am happy to have visited the summits of all the peaks on the back (Popo, Ixta, Pyramid del Sol) too. I brought one of these (and a silver, and gold) to the top of Ixtaccihuatl a few years ago.

It is fascinating how it resembles the USA seal. I think that is unlikely to be intentional!

I have always considered the 20 Centavo POTS one of the most beautiful world coin designs, especially in GEM

    Nice write up MISTER image
