Ebay Make An Offer Question

I am looking to place an offer on an item. The seller told me they already have an offer for $6,000 and since they knew I was interested, they were giving me a chance. My question is, if I offer $5,500, will ebay refuse my offer or will it go through. I am just wondering if the owner's offer was $6,000 or maybe a tad bit lower.

Any offer for any amount regardless of the pending offer(s) will go through unless seller has set the auto decline option for offers below a certain amount.

1. The seller has a good offer and contacted you to try to squeeze the most money out of the sale as possible.
2. The seller is a good guy and truly wanted to make sure you didn't want it before he sold it for 6k.
If #2 is the case, I probably wouldn't offer $5500 unless you don't believe the seller. Because if he really has an offer of $6k, he may be offended when you still offer less than 6k and will sell it instead of countering.
