Dusty was a hero in the 1954 World Series. Glommed from the LA Times: "in his only World Series, in 1954, he delivered a game-winning pinch-hit home run in the 10th inning of Game 1, a game-tying pinch-hit single in Game 2 and a two-run pinch single in Game 3". He actually batted .341 that year, in limited action.
I first heard of his exploits while reading Leo Durocher's book "Nice Guys Finish Last" in the 1970's. He's been on my mind recently as he was one of the last few cards I needed for the 1955 Topps set (still need two) before getting this beauty:

I left my phone in the hotel room and saw I had quite a few texts. What a bummer they were informing me of this.

Dusty was the first major good guy we cheered for as a kid growing up in Florida.

Going to have to recite some Hard Time Blues tonight.

This is one of my best cards and right near the top of list of my favorites. I purchased this in April of 2010 and it has remained a Pop 1 ever since.

It was a goal of mine to get all of the performers who were still alive to sign their cards in the SMR article. I never even gave it a second thought that there was urgency to getting Dusty to sign.

Thanks to Knapp for getting these done. I only kept the one that graded a PSA 8 but it nice to see it signed The American Dream.
