KISS Donruss Case

I actually ran across this auction from visiting a KISS fan site:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/361305718717?ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&fromMakeTrack=true
It is an interesting auction as I have not seen a case box of the second series, let alone a partially filled case. By my calculation, the premium added for the case is about $2,000.00 to $2,500.00. It is way to steep for my tastes but an interesting piece of KISStory no less.
This is the only second time I can recall seeing a case box of any kind (last was first series). As these were highly popular cards considering they were issued at the apex of KISS's first phase of "domination" (sorry, had to fanboy out a second there), I suspect almost every case was busted open. I also suspect almost all of the case boxes were destroyed considering it seemed your grocery stores and mom and pop locations would only pick up a box or two at a time. When you add in the fact your Larry Fritschs and the likes were not buying cases, it makes it even more highly unlikely full cases survived. I have yet to see a full case of either series and suspect (but do not know for sure) that such does not exist.
Also, in case anyone has not seen it, and they are interested in reading more, here is an article I wrote a few years back on the cards:

Nice!
It is never too late to start collecting these. Raw sets are relatively inexpensive. Finding mint examples, however, is another issue all together. One fascinating dynamic in my dabbling in both the KISS collector world and trading card/grading world, is that the average KISS collector has no baseline for condition of trading cards. Many of a KISS collector I have spoken to assumes cards in the pack are guaranteed mint and forget about trying to explain centering and corner push issues. That can be both challenging and maddening!

<< <i>KISS is one of the most widely collected groups. They have a very loyal following. I would love to see some of your cards. Although I do not specifically collect KISS items, here are some of my non-US KISS cards:

Nice! I have not seen these before. Very cool stuff. The next "paper" KISS collectible I would like to pick up is a Chewbop album. I had one as a kid. It is long lost but will be replaced and it is not too expensive.

Donruss and their cheap stock!!
That unopened case is awesome.
IT CAN'T BE A TRUE PLAYOFF UNLESS THE BIG TEN CHAMPIONS ARE INCLUDED
The set was incredible!
And yes Stone I obviously agree they put on a great show! I've had the opportunity to see them front row center a handful of times and that is even more incredible. I encourage anyone to check out a show-- you will be entertained. Sadly, time is running out as they are not getting any younger.
In the meantime, submit your Donruss KISS cards for grading so I can upgrade my set!

Ya know?
When our forum gets so busy that this post becomes a hindrance? Then, I could see a problem.
It did get me to thinking. Back around November of 2004 a member by the name of Lee, aka Speeder, pushed to have CU create the non-sport forum - I just posted a tribute to him on that forum.
Do any of you remember Speeder?

I think I have a set or two of those lying around somewhere. There were a few sets that came out a few years back that followed the modern chase card trend-- pieces of stage worn costumes and autographs. I pulled a stage worn spandex card of Gene and had him autograph it. Lol.

I have posted before on the non-sports forum. It is typically crickets in that forum.
From what I can tell, a good number of members have enjoyed this thread. I also thought it was relevant to post here considering it relates to an eBay seller well known around here and it still pertains to PSA grading. I thought the item was also rare and unique enough to point out.
There are, from time to time, threads that pop up on here that are not strictly sports card. In fact, a thread on collectible toys comes to mind (which I enjoyed).
If you don't enjoy the thread, just pass it up. Also, rest assured I have no agenda or mission to post such "non-relevant" threads repeatedly. I've been on the boards quite a long time-- I do not post a lot unless I have something to say or I believe the membership might enjoy it.
Carry on!

Agreed.
I'm happy to learn more about all things trading card!
If it's not your schtick, maybe don't click?
They're too old to really understand
You'll still get rowdy with the "PSA boys"
'Cause it's time for you to take a stand, yeah, yeah

Though you cannot see it, I just stuck out my tongue, spit blood and breathed fire in honor of this.
