Rare Ripken Slabbed 1986 Meadow Gold Pint Carton

Wanted to thank Mknez/Mike for putting together an oversize group sub that allowed me to get this tough unsued 1986 Meadow Gold chocolate milk pint carton of Cal encapsulated for me (which I thought I'd share).

Thanks again Mike

    Great item!

So they don't specify milk vs choc milk on the slab?

since he wasn't on a white milk carton, there is no variation

Neat item. Do you have a matching handcut card to go along with it?

I'm not sure if it sold through but there was a guy on eBay selling just the card (cut from carton) in average shape for like $350.

How is that only a 5? Seems pretty dang sharp to me...

Do they look at the inside? I suppose it's possible that the inner cardboard is stained from chocolate milk?

I thought the same thing but he said it was an unused one..

I was curious about the grade as well; and since this was an un-folded; un-used carton, there was never milk inside.

I'd have to imagine this is the first and only of its kind to be slabbed. Interesting that its unused, looks like-new, and still gets a 5. Awesome slabbed nonetheless. Sorry for bumping this four month old thread but I plan on getting some boxes slabbed and this gives me a lot of enthusiasm..

I think they take into consideration what it would look like if it were fully opened. In the case of Ripken, there are red dotted lines around the card. However, the red lines on the left of the card go into the front of the carton ... into the brown. I think this is a big reason why it got the grade it did.

    Thanks, Doug.

Now that I think about it, I'm not sure most of the boxes I was thinking about buying (1988 Topps, 1988 Score, 1987 Kraft) are small enough to be slabbed. Think they are too big for supersize so I may give up on this endeavor.

PSA has trouble accurately grading boxes/items with pre-fold lines (milk carton cards, Milk Duds boxes, Bazooka gum boxes, etc.). They need to realize that if the item is virtually unimprovable, that it should probably get higher than a 5. Just sayin'.
