So did I read this correctly? Topps printed approximately 250 million cards of the 1977 football set which works out to about 473,000 of each card. I wonder where they got that figure and if it is correct?

The most cards graded from that set is the Largent at just over 2100 cards graded. Makes me think a lot of those vendng boxes were either scrapped or are sitting in someone's warehouse somewhere.

I find it interesting near the end where the dealers talk of many cards being unusable because of poor quality. I had never considered that many of the poor quality cards
were probably thrown away as the dealer sorted the cards. I know that back in the day that is what I did if I came across a wax stained or miscut card. It would go right in the trash
no matter if it was H. Aaron or T. Aaron.

I don't think that is what they meant, but it's written kind of strangely.

I read it as 250M singles of all 1977 issues since they didn't specify FB in that paragraph.

I see five 1972 wax cases. Any idea what cases are in the third (middle) row?

It has been my experience that 10% of the cards from a vending box in the 1970's have been trash material. Roughly 10 cards on each side and 30-40 miscut cards where you can see two players. Topps quality control was much better starting in 1982 but there are still some that are trash can material.

Looking for high grade rookie cards and unopened boxes/cases

That price was for two vending boxes.
In 1977 she sold two vending boxes for 7.99.

I bought two....kept one and have one coming up for auction soon with a copy of the letter that came with the purchase.

    Cool stuff.

I had been buying the complete sets from her starting in 1975 at age 9...in 1977 I decided that had gotten boring so I too got two vending boxes hoping to build a set. I was at least 200 cards short!

I love/hate seeing old ads like this
  • I remember seeing a copy of TuffStuff with an ad for a dealer wholesaling cases of 86/87 Fleer basketball for around $70.

I agree, love/hate those old clippings.... Makes me wonder how many cases are still sitting in warehouses just forgotten. I feel like there has to be more of that 1970's unopened product out there.
Love those 70's - early 80's packs and boxes...send me a message if you are selling because I am buying

I would think the same thing. I mean where else are companies like 4sharpcorners getting all of their product to find those gem mint cards?

Any chance they're sitting on a warehouse of their own?
