USPS Signature Service for Priority 2 Day

GoldbullyGoldbully Posts: 17,459 ✭✭✭✭✭
As I was nearing the completion of purchasing USPS Medium Flat Rate Box Service online, I noticed that there was a
check box missing for Signature Service......see pic below..........

I had no choice but to check the Adult Signature box.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Then to add insult to injury, expected delivery date is Wednesday, June the 10th.

It should be Monday June the 8th.

Can anyone lend me an ear. image

edited to add: Non adult signature is ~$2.35 if I recall.

I know some rates went up recently. Perhaps this was one of the increases.

You are correct that the old rate was $2.35.

A signature would have been required anyways because of the value of the package.

New rules went into effect 06/01/2015.

The Black Insurance labels used to be a value up to $200. It is now $500.

The Blue Insurance labels used to be $201 and up are now $501 and up.

No signatures required for anything $500 or less.

These were sent Priority small box:

Cost: Priority Mail 2-day Small flat Rate Box - $$5.95

    Inurance for $280 - $4.60

    Signature Confirmation - $3.00

    Total - $13.55

I went back and instead of $1000 insurance, I changed it to $500.....see pic below....

Can I assume that the standard signature service is included when the insurance is $1K?

Or must I have an adult sign for the package?

    This is new to me.

It appears that signtaure service is now included for packages insured over $500.

Also, I have noticed that Priority Mail in many cases has been changed from 2 to 3 day service and Priority Mail Express from 1 to 2 day service.

In addition, insurance used to be much less expensive for higher dollar amounts when using Priority mail Express, but the last package I shipped, it was same price for both Priority and Priority Mail Express.

    Very confusing.

USPS service changes as of late can b summed up by worse service (longer delivery times) and higher fees.

I personally think the USPS cut it's own throat with this latest fee increase. They took what is probably their most profitable segment(packages) and tried to milk the cow. Sure they are going to get more per package but I am willing to bet their volumne will decline significantly and cause a loss of revenue. I also think they will drive many people like myself to private insure.

After all this discussion, if I buy $1k in insurance, do I get Signature Service included?

Or, am I forced to buy Adult Signature Service?

    Thanks in advance.

FYI. I bought signature confirmation for a package insured for $300.

It was delivered without any signature from the recipient.

I guess the new rules apply that the package has to be valued at over $500 for a signature confirmation, then why pay $2.85 for the signature confirmation.

Guess I was ripped off by the USPS.

Advice from a mail carrier...Highlight signature required with a magic marker. The old signature required labels stood out since they were in pink. If you use click and ship your label is all in black. Mail carriers deliver a lot of parcels every day. If they know ahead of time that they'll need to fill out a pink slip for the customer to sign, it'll help!

Notice on the USPS site..."ALERT: Tracking will not be available from about 8 PM ET, Sunday, 11/08/2015 until about 2 AM ET, Monday, 11/09/2015 due to maintenance."

If you buy signature conformation and don't get it then a refund should be available. I have received many packages with no insurance that I had to sign for as the sender self-insured. It is a common practice for self and privately insured shipments (signature required that is).

The new blue scanners would not let you click thru if you have a piece that need sig.
