What kind of eBay bidding strategy is this?

203 bids from 7 bidders. The high bidder probably has 150 bids after he already attained the high bid.

Auction Here

Anyone ever try such a strategy? Seems like a lot of work.

  • The strategy is, it's mine don't bother. When this happens on an item I'm interested in, I go nice and slow and really make them pay for showing their hand so soon.

no idea why someone does this. I have seen people place many tens of bids perhaps to scare off potential buyers-
In my case I place the same 1 bid I was going to place and almost always my 1 bid will outbid all the other bids placed.

I never mind showing my hand early as ultimately I was willing to pay that number to begin with.

If I get outbid I just move on.

may the fonz be with you...always...

He started out at 2 to 3 seconds between bids and as he went on, it stretched out to 6 to 7 seconds
    between bids......time on his hands.

Regardless of what the bidders "strategy" might be, the door has been opened for a fairly hefty closing price over the next 9 days.
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

He/she has been outbid and how in the heck was he/she able to bid in 1 cent increments?

    Good for you.

You can raise your bid by 1 cent increments if you are the high bidder. In this case the bidder is only increasing their max bid price, not the current auction price.

The bidders with massive bids were both noobs. Not uncommon to see that. I bid once early to get it on my bid list then usually come back at the last second days later to snipe it. Two bids. Or recently I use a sniping program depending on my schedule. Occasionally you will see bidding like this from someone with a high number feedback, that strategy has always baffled me. Sometimes when I see that I make a point to try and outbid then, just cuz-LOL!

  • Too much time on their hands and likely bids from the mobile cell phone apps, it's got that stupid button to one-up the bid. Much like how kids get addicted to video games...repeatedly clicking that bid button gives them the "I'm playing a game feeling"...

What's annoying about bidders like this is that casual observers might assume that the item's being shilled when it isn't. I wouldn't be happy about it if I were the seller here.

Good grief, that seller needs to lay off the over-saturation of his images.

    Some are frighteningly juiced.

    +1

I have had it happen a few times, and when you're on your seller page initially it's confusing seeing 44 bids, yet the item is only bid at $62.00 and then you go in and see some smoe placed 42 bids in a row...then click the bid history as a potential buyer and Ya, it can make decent sales look funny.
