1934-58 Lincoln Short Set Price Question

TyrockTyrock Posts: 306 ✭✭✭
THE CDN lists the bid price of the 1934-1958 (no 55/55) short set at $255.00. Obviously it depends on how the coins in the set grade, but it seems a little high. Thanks for any help in explaining the bid price.

High grade 1935-S is a key.
  • I'm curious too. There are about 15-18 coins in this set that are worth a more than a couple dollars in uncirculated condition, maybe another 2 dozen worth $1-$2 in uncirculated condition and the bulk worth a little less than $1 each. That get you to $250 but all you get is a folder of bag marked coins. I bet no dealer would pay that without 1/2 the lot being red and MS64+.

Curious where they came up with 1934-1958 for a short set. Why 1934 as opposed to any other date?

Just a wild guess here. 09-58 is 49 years. Take half of that,24 or 25 years and add to 09=1934? Other 24 gets you to 58. Good as any guess.

I think the short sets are designated as such because in all the series where there are short sets everything before 1934 is multiples higher in price in MS than their later counterparts with very few exceptions.

1934 marks the beginning of the modern era.The last classic coins are dated 1933.

The mintages for 1934 are exponentially larger than those of 1931-32-33. It makes cents ... er, sense.
