Even Priority Mail 2-Day with insurance is now $1 more then next day air used to be
Been putting $1.00 per hundred for several years now there is a lot more in that can now than any coin I own is worth. :-)
7.55 insurance
now? 25.05
plus I'd have been hit with the $10.35 fragile handling fee.
I've been told they are supposed to hand sort fragile items.
<< <i>Sure was nice to be able to send express for little difference in cost before.
Yeah next day express used to be the way to go not to make someone wait 10 days for registered or mess with wet tape
In that short time I've seen auction buyer's premiums increase, auction house shipping fees increase, and now this.
Eventually, it all adds up. The end effect is a widening of the buy/sell spread, no different than a tax.
Only problem is, 1st class mail can't be insured via this 3rd party, shipandinsure.com.
To make it pay, you need to factor in the annual society fees, so the larger the volume, the better the savings.

Registered mail is usually treated kinder and gentler than other mail.
Once they retire they'll have to live on their government benefits alone without any perks of the job.
USPS Shipping went up in General. Last week, 4 ounces cost $2.09 1st Class. Today it's $2.13
I think they are just trying to stay solvent since their rates have been relatively low compared to other services.

<< <i>What private insurance is available and affordable if I don't want to pay a $135 NACA membership fee?
I thought it was around $40 or so
This morning I picked up a 9k coin from a customer who wants me to submit it , he placed it between 2 cardboard pieces and mailed it in a regular envelope.
Made it fine this am.

My experience yesterday was completely different from yours.
I was sending a package from California to North Carolina.
To insure the package for $3500 the cost was $47, plus express postage of $35
Total cost of $82
Shouldn't online charges be the same?

One would think so. When I saw his $12.50 insurance for a $3200 shipment, it seemed way low. Even before the rate increase insurance for a $3K express mail was spendy. He got lucky; seems like $42.50 would have been more like it.
Priority Flat rate box - $5.95
$280 in insurance - $4.60
Signature Confirmation - $3.00
Total - $13.55
Black Insurance forms now go to $500 (no signature required) and Blue are $501 and up.
I always received a signature PDF when I chose this option. Lately the USPS has not been doing this. It is dangerous when you are shipping $100s of dollars of coins via ebay sales and you have no proof of a signature.
Next time I am going to add the regular signature confirmation to my registered mail and see if that works. Even registered mail is getting shabby.
