Love token self-cherrypick (Victorian Canada 50c)

I bought this because it's a nicer-than-usual love token, with a full name instead of just initials, and a name that actually is still in use. Plus it was made from a Victorian Canada 50c, which is a rarer type both in general and as a love token. I was sad that the engraving was on the date side, so no way to tell the date. Or so I thought, until I looked a little closer...

Always nice to cherrypick yourself!

At first glance I did not notice the stylized "A."

I was wondering who was this lady named "Lice" and no matter how charming she might be otherwise why, how did this gentleman manage to overlook the fact that she was a parasitic host and love her anyway?
