Grading Q - refractor lines

How many points does a refractor line knock down a card? I'm referring to the line where the refractive coating meets on some cards.

In my experience it's one full grade. I'll post an example or two that I subbed. Didn't notice the lines and cards I thought were 10s, 9'd.

The lines are visible straight down the center of each card. Actually, the Walker card's line begins right after the "L" in Herschel.

If I didn't know better, I'd say the card on the left was supposed to be that way. Since the line almost equally divides the card in half, it actually looks like it is supposed to be there.

1 grade penalty has been my experience too. You can't get a 10 on a card with a refractor line.

You could be right. All my other copies look the same.
