Why put the pitcher in the 8th spot?

lightningboylightningboy Posts: 1,483 ✭✭✭
Not sure how many teams are doing this, but the Cubs continue to put the pitcher in the 8th spot of the lineup. And it isn't like they have the 1979 Pirates pitching staff hitting either. What is the game logic of this?

Because Joe Madden knew that Addison Russell, who was hitting less than .190, would hit his first Major League Home Run and lead the Cubbies to a 1-0 win???????? Lol

Edited to add: Russell is now only 659 HRs behind A-Rod for 4th all time.

With a non-pitcher batting 9th, the hitters at the top of the order come to bat more often with a runner on base. It supposedly is good for an extra ~2 runs per season.

Why is the pitcher still hitting in the NL anyways?

if striking out most of the time is called hitting, then i can understand why 0 fans in Baltimore was referred to as attendance.
