Looking for more information: 1991-1992 Upper Deck Basketball

I am a football guy but got a box of 1991-1992 Upper Deck Basketball (Inaugural Edition - not the High Series) in a recent deal. I have been holding on to it but it does not fit in my collection. With all the posts on ripping packs, I have decided that it could be fun to tear into this box and see if there is anything worth grading and selling. I see there are at least a couple of Michael Jordan cards in the set but am pretty clueless about what else I could find in the box.

Is there anything in this set worth grading under a $5.50 special? and if so what would be the approximate value for PSA 10s?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

  • Not a ton even though it is some of the first basketball I ever collected. The main Jordan sells for about 15.00 in a psa 10. I do love the design though!
  • Thanks for the input. In the first pack I opened, I got a Jordan hologram (AW4). Not worth grading because of a slightly dinged upper left corner though - at best a PSA 9. Very cool card though!

  • The Mutombo RC in that set has recently become a more popular card because of his HOF induction. Goes for about $25-$30 in PSA 10 I believe.

The only basketball set I ever collected and completed by ripping packs back in the day.

Everyone was crazy for Larry Johnson and Dikembe Mutumbo RC's.

    Was a great set.
Always looking for 1993-1999 Baseball Finest Refractors and1994 Football Finest Refractors.

I opened a box of this in the last year that was $5 and all four holograms were the same Jordan. Back in the day, that would have been huge.

That set was the hottest thing in the world for a while.

That was one of the last new releases that I can remember where you could buy a box, rip it, and always make a profit or at least get your money back selling the singles. Ahhh...the glory days.
  • Thanks to all for the input so far. So I opened this box and got 7 holograms! 2 Jordans (AW4), 3 Detlef Schrempf (AW5), and 2 David Robinsons (AW6). What was the average number that you got in a box? 7 seems like a lot.

I looked on eBay and the Jordans sell for about $4-$5 raw but there are not graded versions of any player. Does PSA grade these hologram cards?

Thanks in advance for the insight.

Yes I own both Jordan holograms in a psa 10. Probably a 15-20 dollar card in a psa 10.
