Remember me?

I was one of the most hyped pitchers ever that never even got to play a single MLB game because I blew out my throwing shoulder in a fight and never pitched again.
Can you name some more hyped athletes that never got a chance to play even a single pro game in their sport.

Pee Wee Kirkland - Look him up. Was said he could have been one of the best NBA players ever.

Hank Gathers - tough watching him collapse on the court.

Earl "The Goat" Manigault - Kareem said he was THE BEST he ever played against.

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.

Wow, Brien Taylor!! There for a while my prized pack in my collection was 92 Topps rack pack with a Brien Taylor GOLD showing on the back. I think Frankie Rodriguez was the other can't miss prospect back then... I remember he was such a good hitter and pitcher, everyone thought he'd be a SS if pitching didn't work out. At least he lasted in the league a few years.

He did pitch for a few years after that fight, but he never again got above class 'A'.

I have the Brien Taylor Classic Promo Card, that was "ultra rare" and only issued if bought other cards from the Home Shopping Network. This was before Don West and the Gem Mint 10 days.

How about Matt White. The then-Devil Rays gave him a $10.2M bonus. He never pitched in the majors and (just looked it up) only appeared in 122 minor league games.

Edited to add: Bobby Seay was given a $3M signing bonus around the same time. He and White were often referred to as the "bonus babies". Seay did reach the majors, but injuries plagued him. His final career stats: 11-6, 4.16 ERA, and one save.

Matt Bush is a tragic story. He still might make it. He's young enough to pull a Josh Hamilton if he stays sober.

He will be 29 when he is released from prison. In his "prime" he couldn't hit worth a carp and was an iffy fielder. That's why he was switched to pitcher but still sucked despite a high 90s fastball.
