First time submitting . . . please help with advice regarding OC qualifiers for 1960 Mikita RC.

Hi there,

I'm new to the graded card world. I have been a collector for a long time, but have never submitted anything for grading. I'm getting ready to submit a batch of vintage hockey cards from my collection and I've think I've got a pretty good handle on how I want to proceed with qualifiers vs no qualifiers for all of them except for this 1960-61 Stan Mikita rookie. It's a great looking card, except for being OC top to bottom. I'm not quite sure how to proceed with asking for this card's grade. Ideally, I'd love to submit it and have it returned as a 9 OC, but I don't know if it's wise to ask for a min. grade 9, with qualifiers. I have heard that if you ask for a min. grade, you never get it.

So what's my best way to approach this? Should I ask for a min. grade? Should I ask for qualifiers or not?

Please help a rookie out here!

(ps - the brown mark on the left border is on the outside of the card saver NOT on the card)

I'd actually submit it as is with no instructions per minimum grade. I'm not sure you can do minimum grade with a qualifier anyway.
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."
  • If I wanted a 9OC, I'd sub as usual without specifying a minimum grade.

I would personally sub it and specify "no qualifiers" and hope for a 7.

    Nice card! And, welcome!
  • First off I can't grade with out seeing the entire card but from what I can see the card will not get 9 oc. There are two big fish eyes on the front and a few small in the blue area ,also the white isn't crisp enough for 9 oc . To get a 9oc the card has to be flawless except for centering.the graders are really hard on giving anything oc a 9 check the pop on any card 9 oc is a rare grade reserved for stunning examples that just miss a 10 but centering.sorry for the news but I think if you submit it with out qualifiers you'll get a straight 6 maybe 7 and if you sub with qualifiers I think it's a 7oc maybe 8 oc.
