First Time (Crack and Resubmit Results)

Let me start by saying I am starting my 2nd year of graded card collecting. Started in February 2014. After reading a lot of posts on doing crossovers or cracking and resubmitting I decided it was best to go for the crack and submit. Needless to say I was very nervous never having cracked open a graded card. After reading the many tips from this board on how to crack open a graded card I felt like I might be able to do it without damaging the card. My biggest concern was my two SGC 96 cards Frank Robinson and Jabbar. If they come back less than 9 then I have lost money on those two purchases if were to try a resell.

I know that BVG graded cards are known to be over graded a lot times by a half to a whole grade on the older cards but I was pleased with my BVG-PSA results. Below are the results. I was very pleased overall. I felt vindicated when I cracked out the Julius Erving rookie card that was graded PSA 3 and came back PSA 6. I knew when I won that card on Ebay that it certainly looked much better than a PSA 3 and was ecstatic to see it upgraded. I have a few more cards that I plan to crack and submit and am fully expecting the results may not be as good as this one but I do like having my cards all PSA. Thanks for looking and if anyone reading this has any stories to share on crack and resubmit please share.

1965 Kahn's Wieners Frank Robinson was SGC 96 now a PSA 9
1965 Topps 16 Astros Rookies J.Morgan/S.Jackson was BVG 7 now PSA 7
1963 Topps 200 Mickey Mantle was BVG 5 now PSA 4.5
1972 Topps 100 Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was SGC 96 now PSA 9
1968 Topps 280 Mickey Mantle was BVG 5 now PSA 5
1972 Topps 195 Julius Erving was PSA 3 now PSA 6

It happens. I subbed a card myself once that came back a "5". After crackout/resub it came back recently as a "9".

My guess is that the light mark you can see going from his chin/cheek area to his shoulder caused the grader of death to hit it with a 3.

I think at the prices we pay for grading the person who graded it a 5 should be fired. So how many 9s out there really should be 5s? To me the # on the slab is a guide, always buy the card. Good job on doing just that on the Dr. j and what ever your 5-9 was firedawg

This is fairly common actually, due to hairline "creases"/wrinkles that are often so faint as to be overlooked.
