Bonds needs three more homers to tie Frank Robinson for fourth place.
Bonds pulled a 2-2 pitch that hit the foul pole in right field and bounced back onto the field. The ball, which had a high trajectory, traveled an estimated 380 feet. Coming with Ramon Martinez aboard, it sent the Giants to a 7-4 lead.
