Note quite a White Whale, more like a White QB

I am long suffering Lions fan. While he may not be an elite QB, Matthew Stafford is the best QB I have ever seen where the Honolulu Blue & Silver. I have a 2009 Topps Chrome base auto in my collection, but wanted to get a high end auto RC. The obvious choices - National Treasures, Exquisite, Contenders, and SP Authentic - were all nice but I didn't think they were special enough.

I saw this card at a show and I knew this was the card. After a little bit of haggling, here it is, #24/25

These were a really tough pull from 2009 Topps Chrome FB. I got a LeSean McCoy out of 3 cases and sold it for I think $500. I don't know if I'm going to have it graded yet, but I think it has an outside shot at a 10.

I like Stafford, he has a pretty decent team around him so its possible he could take them deep into the playoffs sometime. The Bobby Lane curse is long since been over, they just need to get lucky in the draft, I mean they are still due from all those disastrous picks years ago..

I'm envious of the Pats fan and their front office. The Lions have been cursed for over 50 years of bad management.

The Lions draft history under Millen was awful. None of the 2002-2005 first round picks did anything. That run included 5 first rounds - 1 QB, 3 WR, 1 RB. From 2002-2008, none of the second round picks became anything. That included 9 picks - 3 in 2007 alone. It is impossible to develop a winning team without hitting on some of your top picks.

The current Lions regime has drafted better, but the cap management is still awful. They lost most of the defensive line (all under 30) from the top rated defense and got NOTHING in return. They made it worst by trading for Ngata since it looked like the Raven were going to cut him anyways.

I would have cut Calvin Johnson and signed Suh. It is easier to replace a top WR than a top DL. With all of the open offenses in college, the WRs coming out are all freaks.

Cutting Megatron wouldn't have helped much - he still would have been a huge hit on the cap, if I remember right.

I don't know if I would have paid Suh what he wanted but your analysis is pretty much spot-on.
