1986 Jordan PSA 9s. $2800 vs $3700??

These PSA 9 Jordan rookies sold within a minute of each other by PWCC. One sold for $2800, which is about the market price these days. The other sold for a whopping $3700, about a full thousand over the market price. It's a nice one, but extra thousand dollar nice??

PSA 9 Jordan $2800.

PSA 9 Jordan $3700.

On occasion I'll watch two identical items that are ending close to each other and this happens from time to time. My thought is that three people want a card, one wins the first one, and then the other two go into a bidding war for the second one without realizing they could be/are overspending. People get in that mindset of getting that item at any cost, and so they do.

I've been victim to this before, but not nearly this amount.
  • Kinda odd to me. 7 different bidders on card #2 bid more on that PSA 9 than what the other PSA 9 sold for including 2 last second snipes. Both cards look identical in quality to me.
  • Suddenly, there is an increase in Fleer and Star Jordan rookie cards. New highs are being reached every week. Jeez, I wonder where all these buyers/bidders were six months ago when you could get them for half the price. I've seen this before, 90's Jordan inserts anyone?

If you can only buy 1, you have to choose which to bid on. Its possible more people simply randomly chose to bid on the 3700 example.

  • The $3,700 copy is clearly the better of the two, due to the print dot by Jordan's face and the not so great centering on the $2,800 version. With that said, I feel someone overpaid for both copies because they both have small issues that I personally don't like. The $3,700 copy is real nice for a 9, especially the front centering, but that red print mark on the upper right on the back, and centering issues on the back is what would bother me if I owned it. If I were going to pay well over the normal going rate for a 9, it better have nearly gem qualities.
