Worst ebay night ever

There were several auctions ending tonight of cards I was interested in that never come up for sale. All 1968 Mira cards. The Palmer, the stupid Laver, cassius Clay and Mario Andretti. I never even knew about the andretti until I saw the listing. The starting bids were 250 for each of them. I set snipes for 550 for the laver which I thought was absurd but figured what the hell.. I never see it for sale who cares if I over pay for a tennis card of a player that no one knows unless you are a tennis fan. It sold for 599 The palmer was the worst. My snipe was 808. It sold for 798.88. I decided I was content with 1965 palmer I had but for the right price I wouldn't mind having it. LOSER. The andretti I decided not put a snipe in because it had zero bids and didn't think it would sell for 250 but after losing the other I scrambled to try to bid on it and opened it with 5 seconds and not enough to bid. Loser again. Finally the Ali.. I thought was going to go for an astronomical amount so didn't didnt even bother... And it only sold for 550. A nice 0-4 night. I hate Rod Laver

<< <i>Not sure I understand what happened with the Palmer card. You set a snipe at $808 and it sold for $798.88? So, you won it but didn't expect to pay that much? Or am I thoroughly confused on how snipe bids work? >>
At about $800, I think the bid increment is $10. Any bid less than $10 more than the current high bid will not go through.
I was watching almost all of those Mira auctions since they were listed. I am really surprised at some of the sales prices. I didn't like that almost all of them had the pen mark "X" on the front, which is why I didn't set snipes on many. Just picked up one card that didn't have the pen marking on it from that Mira lot. Like you, I hadn't been aware of the Andretti before, and there are none graded. Have you ever seen a source for a complete set checklist? I'd like to know what else might be in that set.
Now, I've added the 68 Mira to my watch list
Don't waste your time and fees listing on ebay before getting in touch me by PM or at gregmo32@aol.com !
anyways..sorry to hear...but what you now need to do is rationalize all the money you just saved and use the cash towards one or two major cards.
so these are upgrades cards that have been written on with pen and still going for that money? wow...hate to know how much the high grades could go for.
I will let you know if I ever find an upgrade and am looking to sell it.
I knew I wouldn't be able to afford the Palmer and the Laver, so I didn't bother with it. I thought the Andretti wouldn't sell and I would wait and bid on a relist, in retrospect I wish I had bid on it.
the Ali is just rare. I would prefer the the Lampo too but that is relatively easy to find. This is only the 2nd time I have ever seen the mira Ali for sale. It's prob his rarest card in the registry. This Mira set is so strange. It's a huge set of over 600 cards. The set itself is not rare. Certain cards are on ebay all the time. While other cards are very rarely seen if ever. The Andretti card is so rare I didn't even know about it and I've been searching for these cards for about 6 years.
<< <i>First world problems... >>
As someone who lived in a 3rd-world country for about 7 years, I totally get this and had a chuckle!
<< <i>Ha. I have no one to blame but myself for not bidding more... Oh well. The x didn't bother me that much. Infact I was hoping it would keep bidders away. The backs had tape damage too. >>
Yup, noticed that too. I'd have preferred the photos of the back sides were directly in those listings instead of the seller having provided links, but at least he included them. The ones with the tape damage can't grade higher than a 2, so for those they are either getting a 2(MK), 1.5(MK) or 1(MK) (and yes, for those who don't know you can get a qualifier on a 1.5). I agree, it would have been interesting to see how high some of these went in better condition, but with cards like the Arnold Palmer, some of them are ones where condition is nearly irrelevant. I have a lot of oddball foreign issue cards graded 1's and 2's where the card is the only one found so the value gets based more on existence/scarcity rather than condition.
They call me "Pack the Ripper"
<< <i>Wait for the "got away!"emails from eBay. They always sting. >>
Truth, especially when your not following the auction and miss it by a buck or two.
