Not sure about the rest of the list, but for baseball my pick is 87 Donruss and for football 89 Pro Set Series 2. Great RC's in both sets and and sneaky condition sensitivity for both sets for relatively modern cards.

1988 Topps baseball. It's the first factory set I ever got for Christmas when I was a kid (the orange and yellow holiday set). I've still managed to save the empty box all these years, but I destroyed the cards when I was a kid just handling them all the time. For the reason above, 1988 Topps will always hold a special place. To this day, besides 1983, I think 1988 has one of the cleanest, yet simple and nice designs of the 1980's. It's just a shame they printed a trillion of them. I can remember when my parents gave me that set for Christmas, they suggested I leave it sealed for an investment lol.

    Edited for grammer.

Thanks guys I went ahead and just picked these up from BBCE.

Came very close to getting an 87 Donruss Steve.

The Comic Ball boxes will be for my son, and possibly the Space Jam as well.

    1989 Topps Baseball Cello Box
    1988 Topps Baseball Cello Box
    1987 Topps Baseball Cello Box
1987 Fleer Baseball Unopened Cello Box (bought 2)
1990 Topps Baseball Unopened Cello Box
1991/92 Topps Hockey Unopened Jumbo Pack Box
1991 Upper Deck Comic Ball Series 2 Box
1990 Upper Deck Comic Ball Series 1 Box
1992 Upper Deck Comic Ball Series 3 Box
1996/97 Upper Deck Space Jam Basketball Unopened Foil Box

That will be a very fun rip. I love 1990 Topps baseball as well. I've never ripped a cello box, but have ripped quite a few wax boxes and that's always been a blast. For $10.00 (which I believe is still the BBCE price for a 1990 wax box), it's a lot of fun hoping for a NNOF Thomas, a partial blackless card, the Bush, Kent etc. The sets don't get any respect, but I love them and love ripping them.

1992 Upper Deck Baseball. One of the best designs and best photos on any set, IMO.

    1989 Bowman baseball

ETA: Just picked up 4 boxes for $40 dlvd, small set for baseball so good odds of hitting a Griffey Jr RC in nearly every box.

Football - I second 1989 Pro Set Series 2 - with shipping it might cost you a bit over $20 for the series 2 but that's where all the rookies are from probably the greatest rookie class of all time. The cards are thin and if you look at them wrong they'll get a dinged edge/corner and centering is typical for the era. On the other hand I've found that it has very few printing flaws.

Baseball - 1987-1991 Topps, 1989 Fleer and Donruss, 1990 Score. Stay away from 1988 Score, it had major issues with the cutting process.

I always enjoy finding boxes of 1989 Fleer at flea markets and garage sales. Always can be had for cheap, and contain nice RCs and errors.

+1 for 1989 Fleer. Pulling any version of that billy riplken card make me laugh

Anything skybox or Fleer ultra football. I always liked the inserts

I think the entire 80s and early 90s era is awesome. Oddly though, Upper Deck doesn't excite me like it did back in the day. I do have a box of 89, but that is all. More excited about the other stuff. It seems like the junk era is getting a lot of buzz lately. Thats good to see. Some great cards and rookies from that era.

I also enjoy the 89 Fleer set. I tend to buy a box every other purchase from BBCE.

I like the 87 Donruss and 89 Fleer

So much so that I am sitting on 10 cases of the 87 Donruss for no good reason other than I like the way it takes up space. Will be years before that stuff is worth anything, only have about $180 per case in it so, not a big deal.

    2013 Topps Chrome Football Blasters.

Very cheap, underrated rookie class, lots of refractors.

I was in BBCE's store in February and picked up 4 boxes of minty 1988 Fleer Baseball. I used to kill this product as a 20yr old. They were only $7.00 a box.

I also get a woody over mass quantites of unopned 1990 Topps baseball. Usually $10 per box, and has a Frank Thomas H.o.F. rookie card which if you are lucky and fortunate at the same time, might be a "No name on Front", not to mention a rare George Bush card!

    Lots of fun!!!

    Later, Paul.

Agree on 87D and 89F for baseball.

    ProSet good call on FB.

Also like 90 Score Hockey Bi-Lingual.

52-90 All Sports, Mostly Topps, Mostly HOF, and some assorted wax.

89 Donruss and Fleer are good calls for super cheap and fun rips. A couple other good ones, while not packs, are the Topps Traded sets. I like the 86 Topps or Fleer Updates or 86 Donruss The Rookies in BB and 89 Topps Traded for FB.

I have been wanting to bust some 88 Fleer baseball for a while now. Never got more than a few packs of those back when I was a kid.
I like 91 and after Donruss to look for Elite cards. I have pulled 2 from 91 Donruss.
I ripped a bunch of GPK Series 3 Racks from BBCE a couple years ago. They were fun.
Football about any 80's or early 90's stuff is fun for me. I liked those Wild Card boxes a lot myself.
I dont rip Hockey since I dont know anything about it. The local pawn shop has some 91 Score boxes for $5 each. I keep thinking about getting the 4 they have. Offered $15 for them but they wouldn't take it.
I havent ripped much basketball. I do have a box of Hopps from the early 90's I plan to rip into soon.

1986 to 1992 Cello's..Always fun to find star power on the top or bottom of them..They seem to be drying up after 1990. I got a case of 92's that I'm itching to open, cases are getting harder to find (except for 87 thru 89). 89 thru 91 Bowman's, good power, cheap price. Love 89's for Griffey's, 90's for Thomas and 91's for Chipper. Don't want the newer stuff, too sticky and not worth dealing with..Got 2 cases of 90 Score wax $100 dlvd ea, looking for Thomas on the front (hoping PSA might grade those!)..

And to make everyone laugh, 88 Donruss cello's!...Dang things are wrapped so tight that you could hurt someone if you throw it!...They are cheap (and if you search around, cello cases, got 2 of them a couple of years back for like $50 dlvd ea) and you have a good shot at some HOF's on front/back. The rest of the case, well, does anyone need some insulation??

I've spent the better part of 3 years grabbing up cases/boxes of 86 thru 92 boxes, looking for star power packs showing and pulling the "good" stuff from the other packs. Someday I'll work on putting it all together in a cool webpage, but I have inventoried and scanned cello/wax/racks from those years and building a really neat collection of unopened "junk" era packs with star power...well over 1600 packs so far!

Love to bust some junk wax on occasion. Most of my favorites have been mentioned already, but here would be my top pick for each sport:

Baseball - 1989 Fleer Cellos (always fun finding Griffey, Ripken FF, Johnson Marlboro, Smoltz or Biggio on top)
Football - 1989 Pro Set Series 2 (best rookie class ever and it never gets old pulling Barry Sanders rookies)
Basketball - 1989 Hoops Series 1 (remember when THE basketball card to have was the David Robinson SP RC)
Hockey - 1990 UD High Number (this stuff was $250+ a box at one point...Federov, Jagr and Bure still get a smile)
Non-Sport - 1986 Garbage Pail Kids Series 3-6 (core to any 1980's childhood collection and the gum is still terrible to eat)

Think I am going to go rip some Hoops right now...great thread!

My dad and I ripped a box of 92 fleer baseball cello (with the rookie sensations) recently. It was fun fanning the pack, and seeing if there was a "blue card" and wondering if it was the Thomas. For only $24 a box it was a lot of fun and we got a bagwell and thomas out of the box.

Best junk wax for me to rip is 87 Fleer baseball. When I started collecting in late 1987, wax packs were $3/each, and that's when Seitzer was the big card, booking $10 in Current Card Prices (this was our bible for pricing).

I have a stack of junk wax I need to open. Hopefully, I will get to a bunch of it in the near future. I'm looking to rip:

    88 Topps FB wax
    89 Pro Set 2
    89 Topps Traded FB

    89 Fleer rack box
    89 Donruss Wax

I don't know if these count as junk since they are from the early 80's but I also have some
1981 Topps Traded sets to bust.

Hopefully I will be reporting some sightings of some gem Bo, Barry, Troy, Deion, Griffey, Raines and Fernando RC's!

I take a shot here and there on early 90's UD that contain the auto. hits of Ryan,Aaron,Bench etc. Jordan BB card insert,Ted Williams,Ryan,Reggie, sub-sets, and Chipper rookies. Has the white border which I favor and a cardboard stock that is not flimsy. Boxes go for around $10. 36 packs, a fun rip.
