I have a question about multiple opening bids

I have an item listed that had an opening bid of $29. Along with the single watcher, it shows that there have neen 3 bids. I thought that once a bid was received, any future bids would have to be incrementally higher. I have seen this happen before as well. Can anyone explain to me how/why this happens? Thanks, Tom

Is it the same bidder stacking bids or different bidders? If the former, it will remain at opening bid price. If the latter, price will increase incrementally.

Three different EBAY members or three bids from the same person?

Sometimes the opening bidder 'stacks' bids (i.e. places a min bid, raises their bid, and raises their own bid again) in an attempt to scare off other bidders.

If you look at the bid history, I suspect you will see the same bidder placed 3 bids, yes?

The only reason I can think of that there would be multiple bids without incrementing the current bid level would be if the same bidder placed an opening bid ($29) and then decided they were willing to pay more and placed an additional bid(s) of, say, $50 as their max.

This is what I was thinking. This is also why I prefer to set up a snipe. An unscrupulous seller could look at that bid history and figure they can shill the lone bidder with multiple bids on the same item, knowing that the bidder has probably incrementally increased their max bid after placing the initial bid.
