Question about PSA Qualifiers

I had a question about Qualifiers on a card. I am looking at an older 1980's Topps Rookie Card that is graded PSA 9 PD and was just wondering what that equates to. Does that equal a 7 or an 8 with No qualifiers?

Thanks

It just depends on how bad the print issue is.

For registry purposes it is a PSA 7 but there are plenty of PSA 9's with qualifiers that could be PSA 8's if submitted asking for no qualifiers.

For set purposes it equates to a 7.

    Good for you.
  • Thank you for the help.

  • Check the pop report a psa 9oc ranks higher than a straight 7 in registry and in reality but the psa 9 pd print defect means the printers put out cards with un natural defects unlike psa 9 oc cards just perfect with centering issues nothing defective .in my personal experience most psa 9 pd cards come back 6 sometimes 5 never psa 8 only time I've seen graders being lenient is with psa 9 oc , if the 9 oc has every thing perfect but centering graders may see perfect virtues deem the straight 8 grade. In my opinion grading pd , st , mc cards is only worth it if the cards very valuable or very in any condition.

For the registry a 9oc is exactly the same as a 7.

Many collectors refuse to buy anything with a qualifier, so the 7 could be easier to sell.

I have seen cards with a pd qualifier that is so hard to find it gets missed upon resubmission.

A scan or link to the card in question would be nice.

  • For registry point purposes a 7 can equate to a 9q , but for registry rarity and value there is a reason why the 9oc is further up on the scale, and ahead of anything under a 10.

I think it really depends on the card.

Centering is a huge deal to a lot of collectors and many will take a strong 7 that is centered over a PSA 9 OC.

  • Very true I'd never buy a card with the pd print defect , st stain or mc, mis cut qualifiers on the other hand if I can get a perfect 9 oc for a fair price, its my way of saving money on the 10 grade, at any rate, guys and girls if you like the card buy it. Also some psa 7 and 8 cards may be dead centered but have horrible eye appeal dinged corners ,bad color, scruffy edges etc buy the card not the holder in all cases.
