New Age Sports Heroes (Big Day For My Son)

The times they are a changin'. While I grew up playing baseball, football, basketball, and soccer, and some tennis or golf, my son plays the first 4 but loves Tae Kwon Do and parkour.

Last summer he got really into American Ninja Warrior, and some of the top competitors live and train in our city. He had to wait until he was 6 to start classes, which happened a month ago. He loves it and is already doing some cool stuff.

Today they had a local kids competition with a meet and greet of some of the local "ninjas" He wasn't old enough to compete, but we went to watch and meet our guys.

They could not have been nicer. We chatted for about 15 minutes, took some pics, and got invited to open workout later today, after our baseball game.

My kid's over the moon. Here he is with Kevin Bull and The Godfather David Campbell.

We live in the Santa Cruz Mountains and our house is surrounded by redwoods. We've been talking about building a course, so I asked David if that's something he could help with when ready. He said sure, but I felt as though I put him on the spot, and immediately gave him the "out" saying cool, when I'm ready I'll get your number from the teacher. At which point he says, nah, I'll just give you my number. WHAT?!? Wow!

Big fan of these guys and this sport. Incredible athletes and super humble.

I know this isn't everyone's cup of tea, but there are indeed new sports making their way into the cultural zeitgeist. Maybe we'll see some cards in the not too distant future.

Anyway, big day for the kid meeting some of his sports heroes and I had to share.

Today must have been an AWESOME day for Owen!

BTW ... Happy belated 6th birthday to Owen (last month, right?).

Edited: OOPS! I thought it was a Martial Arts form ... then I looked up the website.

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
