What are the 4 “guard rails” that surround the card meant for? Are the cards edges supposed to slip under these to hold it in place? Or are they intended to just touch the edges, but not clamp over the card? Most cards I look at seem to have at least one edge underneath.

Hoping someone else has thought about this - I’m tempted to crack open a holder just to get a feel for how they work, but I don’t have a good candidate right now.

The edges are never underneath. It often looks that way because the posts cast a shadow on the card.
