As I sifted through my mail today a small TTM envelope caught my eye...
I first started the Largent to Krieg connection as a nine or ten year old kid. I threw myself a million Krieg to Largent TD passed in the apartment parking lot. Wishing I would someday be Steve catching TD passes in the NFL. My first football cards were sent to me by my Dad in 1986, a complete (can't remember if it was factory or not) set of 1986 Topps football set. Plus enough pages to for the whole set, I must have put those cards in and out of the pages twenty times lol. I really got into cards after that buying packs at Suggs card shop. Pre Beckett price guides he had a rack of football cards for 50 cents a pack 1892 though 1987 or 88. And billions of team sets from 1978 to 1987 or 88. I remember he had tons of football cases with black paint across the top of the boxes (the case tops were open along the wall piles of them) . Baseball was all the rage back then so football was cheap an something I could buy. He also had a Mantle rookie displayed on the back wall, I think he said it was worth $7000 to me one day. Well back to the TTM, my first chance to get Steve Largent's autograph was at a charity BSK game with Seahawk players (he was on the list to be there). So my Mom took me and my brother over I had my Largent rookie (that I bought from Suggs for $12 now a PSA 6). For some reason he wasn't at the game, man I was crushed. Paul Skansi (spelling) was there but wouldn't give me and my brother the time of day, he was to busy taking pics with girls lol. Kieth Millard did grab my little brother and lifted him up and let him slam dunk a basketball and gave him his wrist band right afterword! The next chance was in Seattle some where my buddy went and got a picture with him, I had just had my first son and couldn't afford to go. Flash forward to today I'd like to thank everybody on the board for posting TTM results, as I to got in on the fun about eight months ago (working on 89 Hoops, 89 Donruss Rookies, 90 Fleer BB, 89 Topps HK, and 86 Topps FB).
Return address Occidental Ave. SHIPPED FROM TULSA! NOT SEATTLE! I sent one of my favorite Largent cards as a kid 82 Topps IA pulled from one of those 50 cent packs at Suggs. I looked at my notes and I sent this out on my brothers birthday last October five months ago (didn't think it was coming back). I also added a personal note, but can't share on the topic, just that he helped me through some though times. I'm done talking just really excited! SCAN!
Back at my mailbox today I pulled out a padded mailer. I puzzled at the package for a moment then thought of the Russell Wilson refractor rookie I had bought had arrived early. So I left the package on the staircase (at lunch time) thinking I would have a look when I was off work.
After I started this thread I had a PM from thekid8. He said he liked my thread and offered to send a couple cards my way that would be a better fit in my collection. I thought at the time it was nice of him to send some cards my way (not knowing what was coming maybe Topps base cards or something like that). Off work, dropped one boy off at BB practice picked a second boy up from JV practice at the same time. Then I went at the package with some scissors, after a laborious minute the package was open. Inside I find a hand written note (always like that, I think only those of us 35 and older still do it). I read the note and I get real excited and thankful at the same time because I know what I'm about to see. These two bad boys!
The note says these two cards were autographed from his playing days! They are just awesome, now thanks to thekid8 I might have to get one of each of his cards signed lol. Thank you thekid8 (can't give his name because I'm not sure if he has ever posted it) for great gift, and making my day.

Neat stories and what a great TTM subject! Looks like he takes time with his auto, a nice bonus. I always admired him when I was a kid. I remember one game later in his career, can't even recall most of the details, except to say he was being covered by a rookie! Needless to say, he spun that CB around like a top most of the game. I guess I'm a little older than you because when I was young, it would have been Zorn to Largent .
Congrats on the return! That auto came out great. You never know when a TTM may show up ... I think the longest I have ever gone from mailing one out until receiving it back is about SIX YEARS!

Hey Phil remember when players like Largent made all those catches without sticky gloves lol.

Yep, just with their good, old hands. Imagine that.

Geez Tim, that was a great story!
I enjoyed the narrative and your enthusiasm - I wish more would share this kind of sentiment - I'm sure you share my thoughts that our hobby doesn't have the max appreciation if we don't get to share our "story."
Thanx for sharing yours.
Thanks for sharing the story. That card looks great on its own and with the sig it is lights out. I'm really happy for you as I know this must mean a ton to you. I think he is a little forgotten now because of how pass heavy (and hence reception heavy) the league is now, but before Rice came along, Largent was the record holder for an incredible amount of receiving categories. I think most people under 35 don't know how good he was and what kind of career he had. Throw in his off field character and you've got a great person to build a collection around.

I found a scan of the Steve Largent auto I got in 2014. I sent it to Sherman Smith via the Seattle Seahawks address in Dec 2014. If it ever makes it back ::crossing my fingers:: It's yours if you want it!

Mike - yeah I always like to read a little back story on how a card was attained. Obviously OP can't reveal to much info, doubt guys want to read a ten paragraph essay lol.
Steve - agreed the older receivers don't get the love, nor do any defensive players for that matter. Collecting players that have high caracter off field sure does take some of the risk out of buying their cards. And it's easy for me to connect to players like Steve Largent and Russell Wilson.
