Crossover Question

Does PSA ever have any monthly specials for the grading fees for crossovers?

    Yes and no.

You can send in cards under the specials as crossovers but it must be all one service level. I have never seen a specific special for crossovers in the five years I have been sending in cards.

Your best bet is to wait for a $8 or $10 special with a lower number of cards needed to qualify and go that route unless you have 50 or more.

You also would need to consider shipping charges on a large crossover order. A high weight and high dollar value insured through USPS would really drive up your total cost.

    Thanks. This is good insight.

I have some experience with crossovers from SGC and GAI to PSA....but not much.

Any experience on any results you have had with crossovers to PSA? I realize that it obviously varies, but interested in your experience along with others who may want to comment.

These would be T205 gold border crossovers to PSA.

Mine have all been Wrestling All Stars. I doubt it is a good sample set to use in relation to T 205 cards.

I have had mixed results. It was worth it for me to try and advance my sets but monetarily it was a loss. There is no doubt in my mind you have a better chance of getting cards to cross after they are cracked out as I have had a few that were giving the MIN GRADE but did cross after being cracked. That said I cracked numerous cards out of BGS slabs that came back as much as two grades lower with PSA.

If they are cards you have reasonable money in, then sending them in first in the holder is your best move. If it costs you a few bucks to have some rejected it is better then seeing the value collapse if they come back in lower grades. After you have tried a few then you can determine your ultimate strategy.

What is your goal? To have all of your cards in PSA slabs or to try and enhance the value with their equivalent grade.

    Thanks again.

I want to get everything PSA graded....I am active in the PSA Set Registry which I like.

I am going to try a PSA crossover for some and see the results.

Here is another question which shows I need a bit of educating....but is there an easy way or a special tool that folks use to crack open an SGC holder?

I am certainly no expert on cracking. I just did my first cracking of an SGC, PSA and BVG holders. A nice pair of wire cutters and a couple of flat tip screwdrivers is what worked for me. I remember reading on a previous thread to keep the card inside a plastic bag as little shards fly all over the place. I'm glad I had read that before I did mine as I would have had shards all over the kitchen and dining room. I just snipped the corners and gradually worked the screwdriver tip into an opening and carefully pried them apart. I found new PSA holders to be the hardest with the BVG being the easiest. Good luck. I am sure others with more experience will add much more than I can.

The SGC holder is very easy and you just have to make sure you hold it firm when you make your cut so the card doesn't shift in the holder. As was stated the new PSA holder is a bear and very dangerous to crack.

Years ago when members were saying how tough BGS slabs were to crack I decided to make a video to prove that just wasn't the case. That same method works on older PSA slabs and certainly on SGC.

You mentioned GAI. That is an insane slab to crack. You might honestly want to get a hacksaw or something to try and cut the top off. I have cracked two cards out of their slabs and that is enough for me!

    Crack out video

Here is the video. I can't figure out how it still averages close to 300 views a month. I guess it proves there are a lot of collectors out there.

Thanks. I have always used the share link from Youtube but it seems to have not worked the last few times I have posted videos.

    The video is good.

Any experience with cracking SGC holders using the same?

Same technique. Works on SGC and old PSA holders.

That's the first time I watched that video. Good job Dave. I use a Dremel cutter. It smokes like he11 and stinks up my patio but also does the job. I was always worried of having the slab crack in the wrong direction and cut the card when using pliars. I'll try the wire cutter approach.
