1993 Baseball - Breaking Boxes for Jeter Rookies

What is everyone's opinions on breaking 1993 baseball boxes for Jeter RC's? The cost/box is reasonable, other than the Upper Deck SP boxes. I've recently been on somewhat of a quest to pull some high-grade Jeters from packs. I don't have guts to spend the money for an SP box, especially with my experience of Upper Deck cards sticking together.

Recently, I've ripped a box of Topps and 3 boxes of Upper Deck. All the UD boxes were from the same seller and cards were badly stuck together. I pulled 1 Jeter/box but 2 of them were garbage due to sticking to the other cards. The one I graded came back PSA 9. The Topps box yielded 1 non-gold Jeter which graded PSA 9. I should have paid closer attention to the pack as the Jeter was showing on the back of the Topps pack.

I'm planning to rip another Topps box and a Score Select box soon.

Opinions.....what's your favorite (non-SP) Jeter? What box do you think makes the most sense economic sense to break? Are there any cards of value in non-SP 1993 boxes that I should look out for?

It would be nice to be able to easily search the Pop Report on all Jeter RCs. But it would take more than an hour with PSA's garbage new Pop search.

I have done this too and find the upper deck are almost impossible to find a clean copy. They stick together and normally the surface is ruined. Topps is good and I would suggest rack packs or even factory sets. Score select is another one that I pulled nice cards from. Pimnacle suffers from the same issue as upper deck and I would rank it as one of his tougher cards to find centered and with gloss. Black edges make it tough too.

I guess if you want to find it from a pack I would stick with topps, score and score select. All the others have issues with gloss. Stadium club is like a brick.

I love the 1993 topps set. Kind of went on a binge with buying boxes over the past year and a half.

At this moment I still have many boxes that I havent decided what to do with. 8 wax boxes, 2 cello, 1 rack and a sealed rack case (3 boxes). Can't decide between keeping one of each and selling the rest....or to just keep what I have and put them in "long term storage" for a few years to stave off the temptation of ripping them all open. haha

I made a thread about it back in October 2013 on blowout and kept updating it there

But yea, if you bust open any more...definitely keep an eye out to see if Jeter is on the back of the pack. I had good luck finding him there. Even got a pack PSA graded and a rack pack wrapped by BBCE. pictures are all posted in that other thread (don't want to clutter this one up)

Good advice. Thanks. Any luck with the Bowman boxes?

Yeah I ripped a couple boxes of the Upper Deck a few years ago and the cards were slightly stuck together... but enough to have minor chipping on the Jeters. I managed to have one grade a PSA 9 though.

I would stay far, far away from those (at least until I've built up my stash some more) image

If you rip Score Select you'll get a nice Jeter RC and also get the cool dufex inserts.

Check my pack ripping thread. I just pulled one from 3 packs of 93 Topps.

I actually ripped a Score Select last night. It took until pack 36 of 36 to pull a Jeter. I think it had very minor damage to the top of the card...might still send it in to PSA. There are some First Round Draft Pick cards that showed up 3 or 4 times in the box (Shannon Stewart). There were 3 of those funky insert cards: Cecil Fielder, Lee Smith, and Roberto Alomar

Ive had decent luck with 1993 pinnacle series 2 boxes...the first time i broke a jumbo box it yielded 3 jeters(2 psa 9 and a 10!)... Ended up making $300 on a $100 investment(cost of box and grading fees)...i once opened a hobby box that yielded 3 as well(mostlikely psa 8) and they fetched about $75 on ebay raw( pretty much break even)...i think this box has the best rip/return value when it comes to busting boxes for jeter rcs

I busted one box of bowman and received no jeters. Only broke one. Pimnacle did Definately have more jeters per box. I busted two boxes and pulled two in each box. I think they all got 9s.

you rip Score Select you'll get a nice Jeter RC and also get the cool dufex inserts.

In the green box, you might get 2 Jeter RCs in a box. You also get a cool 3 card Triple Crown insert which includes a cool Mantle card .

Help me.... I ripped a green box (one of these LINK). I landed 1 Jeter on the 36th pack and 3 of the shiny cards (I think these are Select Stars and Select Aces). What is the Triple Crown crown insert and do you know the odds/pack? Are there other inserts of any value?
  • There isn't a huge demand for those Dufex inserts but people will still need them for their player collections. It was one of the most popular inserts sets back in the day.
