Pre-war Wrestling

Picked these up in a recent lot and thought they might be of interest to some here...

They're from the 1915 Susini set out of Cuba, pop 1 each in all grades with PSA. The backs on these are all mangled from being glued, but thought they were kinda cool anyway. Lots of other sports in the set as well (tennis, cricket, hockey, etc.), but I didn't end up with the golf one in this lot.

I am the one that graded these with PSA. For the wrestling fan, it is wonderful to know that the wrestler pictured here is George Hackenschmidt (although the name is not listed on the card).

Good to know, thanks for the info! I meant to ask in the original post if anyone knew who the wrestlers were.

Very cool. I believe I have the sumo wrestler card from this set.

Too bad the backs are mangled, but great nonetheless for being 100 years old.

    Cool cards.

    George Hack

This guy had an extremely impressive physique. Pretty amazing he lived to 90.

Edit: Damn. At 204 pounds he had 19" Arms. A 22" Neck, 52" Chest, 26 3/4" Thigh. Absolutely insane.

Wow. I just read the wiki page. Very interesting. What is his rookie or first card that fits in a standard size slab?
Scans of most of my Misc rookies can be found <a target=new class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://forums.collectors.com/m...y&keyword1=Non%20major">here

1900 Kardomah Hackenschmidt card that I have seen only once in my life. I bought it and slabbed it and got a PSA 6 on it. That has to be one of my most under rated cards in my collection.

Yeah, unfortunately they all look like this with excess paper/glue...

Does anyone have a complete checklist? I'm having a hard time identifying card numbers on some others in the set that look like the one on the far right. I know that one is #221, but there are only 9 different ones graded so I still have 11 that I can't figure out the card number on.

I have never seen a full checklist but I am pretty certain those are the only wrestlers in the set....I was able to find some a long time ago that were not attached to the album although one of mine got a 2 since they may have thought it was attached or had glue on it. It looks just like my PSA 5s that I got on the other two.
