Help determining if these flaws will affect grade

Hey Guys,

Getting ready to send out a big lot of '83 Topps and want some opinions on a few cards that seem to have some sort of defect. I'm just looking to see if you guys think the defects will affect the grade of the card and if I should send the card I or not.

Will the mark in the upper right corner of the Rivers card affect the grade? Is this something PSA looks for or is that just something they accept as part of the card? The card came like this out of the pack

Here are 2 Ryne Sandberg cards. The Second one seems to have faded color. Will this affect the grade?

Here are 2 Rick Honeycutt cards, one as you can see looks like it has ink runs, most noticable on the face in the circle. Does that affect the grade? The Second was just for comparison, I'm not sending it in as it seems to have oil spots on the left border and by the "n" in Honeycutt.
Love '83 Topps. Looking to put together a PSA 10 set.

First card should get a stain qualifier but I've seen them ignore it on cards submitted from 4 sharp corners.

Since they are 83's I'm going to assume you are looking for 10's. IMO none of those cards look close to me, I see issues with the corners and the second Sandberg has print issues. That Honeycutt looks like a 6, it's a bit of a mess. I wouldn't sub any of them and you may want to take a second look at your big group.
  • Rivers and the Honeycutts are not worth subbing. They will not get 10s which makes them worthless. I would sub the Sandbergs on separate orders. If subbed together, the registration looks worse on the 2nd one in your pics because the first one is clear.

It should get an ST qualifier, so 9(ST) would be the best you could hope for.

Likely, as will the oil stain in the top border and PD on the left side of the main photo. I wouldn't expect higher than 7-8 on that one.

It should get a PD qualifier.

I agree with everything LC said regarding grades, and I think only the nicer Sandberg is worth subbing.

I agree as well. Hard to tell, but looks like the top left corner of the nicer Sandberg may not be all that sharp. Probably not much of a risk sending it in, as I can't see it getting less than a 7 ($5.50). If it gets an 8 it's a little better ($9.50) and a 9 ($27.00) makes a bit of a profit.
As far as the commons go, you may be better off buying them already slabbed off eBay. I bet many of them can be had in a "9" for less than the grading fee.

This. Send it to 4sc for the 10! I had a few early 70s 9s that had a worse stain on the reverse. I sent them to PSA for review and they came back as valid 9s. Can't wait until I submit one of these and get a 5.
  • Unless you are looking for low grade/potential qualifier cards that are slabbed, I would save my money if I were you. These are cards you can pick up in better condition online for probably around what it would cost you to submit these stained and flawed cards. Personally, I would rather go online and pick out some nice ones PSA has already slabbed than waste the funds on grading problematic cards.

I only planned on subbing the nicer Sandberg from the scans I posted. I guess the way I worded it in my original post it would lead you to believe I was sending in those cards. I just wanted to know how PSA would handle cards that had those defects. If you had experience with PSA deducting for the stain similar to the one on the back of the Rivers, then I would know not to send in a card even if it qualified as a 10 if it had such a stain. If PSA looked beyond the stain, then I would have some cards I could send in that are definitely 10s, but with a similar stain.

Thanks again for the help and suggestions. I appreciate you guys looking out for me.
