The Texas Two-Step! Both the Rangers and the Astros made the playoffs today. Rangers took care of their own business and they also took care of Houston's as well, giving the Astros the final wildcard spot by virtue of knocking out LAA. Maybe the 'Stros will send the Rangers Christmas cards or something. Hopefully both Texas teams take care of business and meet in the ALCS for the Texas state championship. Over the course of the year, they play for the "Silver Boot" which is a pretty cool trophy given to the winner of their season series. Sure would be sweet to play for a pennant though.
I think the Rangers went from worst to first since last season. Not sure how often that gets done, but quite proud of the team today. However, matters not if they don't finish the journey. On to Round 1.
Here's a few pics from today.
Right after the Rangers took the lead on Beltre's blast.
Here's a shot of the Rangers celebrating on the field (was hard to get due to afternoon shadows on the field)
Here's what the Halo's got for their $20,000,000++ investment in Josh Hamilton this year, by this late in the game though, I was getting a little hoarse:
Nice opening game but could be a big loss if Beltre is hurt bad. Rangers hit multiple homers on TOR ace Price and secure a 5 to 3 victory and keep the closer rested.
Rangers bullpen stepped up today and did what supposed ace Cole Hamels couldn't. Shut down the Canadians and gave the squad the chance to win. Beltre's replacement, who had earlier made a huge error, drove in his 2nd run of the game and the Rangers once again took care of business against Toronto. Up 2 games to 0 games and headed back to the Great State of Texas.
I'll be at the park Sunday as they attempt to close it out. Hopefully will get to witness a celebration.
For any Jays fans, here's the 3 run nail in the coffin from tonight's game. Rangers should have passed out the Viagra because their bats were impotent. Oh well, tomorrow is as good a day as any to win an ALDS and it will get me out of my first class tomorrow night too
Wow, Astros choked and the Rangers can't even get a lead to choke. An ugly day for Texas baseball. Hopefully both, or at least one can get their crap together Wednesday. I'm even considering leaving the Rangers game early to go to school right now. They are playing like they dont give a darn so why should we?
Good luck to the Rangers (they'll need it) on Wednesday.
Let's just hope for a great, hard fought game (and injury-free too) and let the best team win!!
Go Jays Go!!
edited to add: I've been a lifetime admirer of Nolan Ryan (probably one of the very best all-time pitchers), especially when he punched the lights out of that guy who charged the mound one game.

Good luck to the Jays as well although I don't think either team needs it. Both of these squads are very talented teams and it will come down to how they independenly process "pressure" in my opinion. I personally think the last game will be decided by 5 or more runs but at the end of the day who the heck knows who will be on top. I enjoyed watching Stroman (sp?) Throw the other day. His balls seem to defy physics in their movement. Fun to see. I doubt either team has the least bit of "fear" of the other one and as a fan, about the only thing I've been disappointed in is that the Rangers celebration didn't take place here. As far as fans go, I don't know anyone down here that I talk with that actually expects the Rangers to lose and I'm sure the Jays fans feel much the same way.
Just wish it was tomorrow instead of an extra day of wait. I'm still trying to decide on whether to go see A&M vs. Alabama on Saturday (that I have tix for) or whether to go see the Astros v. Rangers (which I also have tix for if they make it). I hope to still have that decision when I go to bed Friday night but it might just be made for me on Wednesday LOL
Back to back errors on Texas. This team is comical. Grown men succumbing to a little pressure. It's a baseball game. Relax and do what you've done your entire life
If I were a Rangers fan, I would be quite proud of this season. Even you started this thread "Drive to not finish last"!! Without Darvish and others, they won the division. With Odor only going to get better, Yu returning, maybe Hamels, the Rangers will be a force. The only thing keeping me from rooting for Texas is Fielder (as a Tiger fan), and the 84 on his back for his spiteful reason! But WOW what a game!

I'm proud of the regular season, not the playoff season. The future looks decent, but I'm getting older every day and I would like them to win one before I pass. I'm way past the 50% mark of my life expectancy so they need to get it together. Even the Mavs have taken care of business down here. Rangers, not so much. 44 years, that's absurd.
What's bad is in the back of my mind, I kind of wonder if Elvis wasn't paid off. Big league ball players don't make 3 consecutive plays like that, even if they are "nervous", and then follow it up with whiffing as the tying run the next inning. Things that make you go hhhhmmmmm...

I fully concur, BUT I still root for him when he has TEXAS across his chest.

Elvis has always been cool with me and my kids. I still love him anyway, just a little disappointed right now.
GO Astros! Save the state from baseball disgrace once again.

Can you imagine going to a game and then try to turn the field into a landfill?
What the heck is up with that?

The 7th inning has to be considered one of the best, strangest and most exciting innings of all time!
Go Jays Go!
I'm sure if Texas had come back to win in the ninth that their fans would have said the same also about it being the greatest game too!
