Should I grade my '51 Bowman Mantle RC?

Hey everyone,

I need your opinion on whether or not I should grade my 1951 Bowman Mickey Mantle RC

The back has pretty serious paper loss so my questions are:
1. Is it possible for this to get a PSA 1?
2. If no, is it worth getting the "Auth" designation (the goal is to sell it so would "Auth" increase its' value?)?

Any opinions are welcome. Thanks!
My collection: Fact #15

The most valuable card I ever had the honor of owning was a 1933 Goudey Babe Ruth #181 graded PSA 4. I sold it in 2007. I miss that card.

Yes if looking to sell. It proves that it is not a reprint/fake.

    Yes.
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."

There are not that many cards in this condition I would say yes to.

    Mantle is this card. yes

For selling or PSA registry points a 1 is better than nothing.

Remember this is just the kind of stuff a forger would do to make a card look old.

Instead of taking a good reprint and passing as a high grade card......where the far more knowledgeable buyers are
and asking big money........do many smaller "hits" with a card like this.

I am not degrading this card in any way. Any 51 Mantle is a beauty to me.
I collect Yankees cards and don't have one.

Have ALL MANTLES slabbed. Good luck. A nice card to own no matter what the condition.

Thanks for the input. So, is there a chance it could get a PSA 1 or will it likely get "AUTH?"

I have a 1953 Topps Mantle that was glued to a scrapbook. The back of the card has glue and torn paper attached. I expected to get an "authentic" grade but got a "1" from PSA. Could be because there wasn't anything missing from the card, but rather glue and paper attached to the card.

I think it has a chance at a 1. Either way, I agree with everybody else that you definitely want to get it slabbed.

Extremely doubtful you get a 1. I think that gets an Auth.

Still, as others have said, it's more valuable graded than not.
