The 1893 Philadelphia-issue Morgan silver dollar is challenging coin to locate in problem-free Mint State condition. Gem examples are considered very scarce, with a PCGS population of only 213 pieces, although that number is greatly exaggerated due to multiple resubmissions of the same coin. Only six coins have achieved the MS66 designation, with none finer as of April 2015. The current offering is above average for the assigned grade of MS64, as confirmed by the CAC approval. In our opinion, a solitary abrasion in the left obverse field keeps this specimen from a full Gem designation. Richly lustrous and mostly white, with a subtle hint of golden toning at the rims.
