My off-center Rod Carew rookie card

Back when I was collecting as a young adult in the 1980's, the hot rookie cards that I coveted were the mid to late sixties debuts of Steve Carlton, Tom Seaver, Rod Carew, Johnny Bench and Nolan Ryan. Within the past few years I acquired a Carlton (PSA 9 OC) and Bench (PSA 8).
I just purchased this Carew card. I know a lot of guys on these boards would never buy a card with a qualifier but I believe they are a good value and can make cards more affordable. I bought this card during a 5X eBay Bucks day so it came out to $233 net, including shipping.

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.

That Carew is so hard to get centered anyway, I think you did a great job. I looked forever before I got mine.

Nice. I do the same thing looking for off center, but nice corner cards, usually in PSA 5 or 6. Heres my off center carew rookie.

Congratulations on your pickup - the card looks great to me.

Although I've gone nuts on a 63F set centered, I have loads of really nice affordable OCs that I'm very comfortable having in my collection.

I believe that OCs weren't as begrudgingly appreciated in the early 90s? I remember writing something on OCs a few years ago.

    Nice pick up
  • I love that card. Back 20 years ago I can remember a man walking up to our table at a card show with a binder full of 1967 Topps baseball cards. He said a relative had a dresser turned backwards in their attic and when they turned it around and opened the drawers it was full of 1967 Topps baseball cards all pack fresh. I bought one of the 1967 Rod Carew RC's that was a perfect card. It was perfectly centered and had razor sharp corners. I kept it for awhile and then ended up selling it for maybe a $100. I wasn't even aware of PSA at the time & if they even existed but I'm pretty sure that THE CARD WOULD OF GRADED AT LEAST A PSA 9 or maybe even a 10!! Enjoy your awesome card..

Thanks for the comments, guys. True, it is hard to get this card centered. I'd rather have the sharp corners than soft ones. Evan - nice PSA 5 there!
....and a +1 for the Marc sighting - looks like you've been posting less often these days.
