1982-83 OPC Hockey question(s)

I'm thinking of starting this set and would like some input from anyone familiar with it. I looked at the pop report and there
are some obviously low pop cards there. Is this an issue just of submissions?
Also looked at eBay auctions and while somewhat pricey, I have a head start with 5 unopened racks , some wax, plus loose cards from earlier rips.
Any advice here greatly appreciated.

Low pops would be due to lack of submissions, this set is fairly easy to find and not incredibly condition sensitive. Still a fair amount of wax out there and lots of guys like me that have nice sets that wouldn't consider subbing commons. PSA for whatever reason is very hard on early 80s OPC hockey, you would end up spending a ton of money chasing a set that isn't very popular.
  • Great set to collect raw. Poor set to collect graded.

For what it's worth I personally have had a hard time finding a perfectly centered Gretzky.
I am with the others not worth the money. I would do 81-82 stars and rookies which will keep
    You busy for awhile..

Thanks for the input guys. Guess I'm just itching to open something. I may build it raw with graded stars, or try another year.
The knowledge set here is really helpful when approaching a new challenge.

I've opened a few boxes in the last two years and the gum stains are a major problem. Centering is hit and miss. High grade sets do pop up now and again on eBay, so buying raw and cherry picking mint cards is much more cost effective than buying wax of 82-83.

I'm still looking for a PSA 10 Gretzky too.

Good luck! I rip boxes for fun. I don't expect any 10's anymore from 80's OPC. I always marvel at how much product must have been printed if all I ever pull from packs are off centered NM or NM-MT cards.

    I know, right?

Good advice throughout the thread. I thought about an 82 OPC set years ago when racks were plentiful (printed in abundance, though, haven't seen many lately).

I love the player's cards in the 82 set, not so much the leaders (IDK why).

If you're looking for something to open....1989 Topps is always fun image

image I opened a bunch of both topps & OPC from 89-90. Have a couple OPC sets & am probably short a few topps cards.
I never submitted any of them however. Most of my sets are in raw state still.
