A card on ebay has a bin at $49.00 I make my first offer at $38.00(I always offer a little low but I always come back if turned down) and he declines no counter.About an hour later I offer $44.00 he comes back with a counter of $47.50.Are you kidding me only 1.50 off evidently he doesn't want to sell it.

It looks like he does want to sell it...for $47.50.

If the seller had it at $59 and hoosier offered $47.50 he would be thrilled with the seller accepting, thinking he just got $11.50 off the price. But knocking only $1.50 off of $49 is a deal breaker.

I think the issue here is why even make the listing a Best Offer if you're only going to budge $1.50 on your price. Just make it a fixed price listing with no best offer option.

My problem is why even put a best offer on it if your only gonna knock $1.50 off.Why waste everyones time just put it at $47.50 with a bin now and no best offer.

I didn't mention in the first post that it had a best offer option that I used.

The price that you're willing to pay should be the final determining factor, not whether it happens to be $1.50 or $5.00 off the seller's original asking price. Look at the bright side, you were able to get $1.50 off the price, $1.50 extra in your pocket. You were willing to pay $44.00 for the item so you're only $3.50 apart in price. Either pay the $47.50 or continue shopping Ebay to see if you can get the same card for somewhere in between your offer of $44.00 and the seller's offer of $47.50. While $3.50 isn't much, it means considerably more to the seller than the buyer. To you the $3.50 is just $3.50. To the seller who will be losing 12%+ on fees he's only getting about $39.00 for the card, or even a few bucks less if free shipping is involved.

Seller is miffed that you made a low ball offer and countered with a silly offer of his own.

Another way to look at it:

You first offer was 22.4% off the list price and the second one was 10.2%.

His counter was 3.06% off his list price.

It seems like your $38 offer was in the ballpark. Good luck with the purchase if you go through with it and definitely post a scan of it signed. This is a great looking baseball card in general and will look great with Pete's nice signature.

99% of BINs are a joke. They are so far North of VCP you get nose bleed when you check them out.

I have listed a couple of cards with my i-phone, and I didn't realize "best offer" was by default checked. When I list my cards, I list them for the absolute lowest I would be willing to sell the card at. Anyway, maybe the seller accidentally listed there, and he didn't plan on going lower, but since you made multiple offers, he lowered it just a little. Also, I agree with what others have said above. Go through some completed sales for similar cards, or get the VCP for the card. If his asking price is a good price, give it to him, regardless of the "style" of the listing. If his price is too high, then move on, and wait until someone offers the card more accurately priced.
