Ticketmaster gouges.

Two ways to get tickets to the local AHL hockey games.

1. Physically at the box office. Can't buy over the phone. Basically a big pita.

2. Online through Ticketmaster. I like buying online. Look at what seats are available. Print them out, etc.

BUT they charge a $5 fee per ticket! That's a large percentage of an $18 dollar seat. image

Have you tried private sellers outside of the arena? They make it known that they're looking to sell.

For local sporting events exactly like this, a couple tickets to good to great seats can often be found for less than face value the closer to game time.

I don't necessarily mean ticket scalpers. Sometimes a family will have a couple extra tickets. When we do have extra tickets to low dollar ticket events, we actually sometimes just give the tickets to someone for free. And I know sometimes they will go and scalp them. But oh well.

Think that's bad? Consumer Reports once showed how on a ticket or something to that effect charging a "FEE FEE". I wish I was joking but I'm not. image

No joke. I forgot that they do tack on another $2.95 at the very end as a "customer service fee".

They took a page out of government policies with the fee angle. Our local city gov't used to pick up our trash for free. Now, instead of raising taxes, they charge a trash "fee" for the same service that was/is inclusive within our taxes. Looks better at election time when pols. say they did not raise taxes. Some state gov'ts I believe have tried to control this over charging on event ticket fees.

Ticketmaster is one big gouge-fest. Have you tried any other sites like Stub Hub? The few Baltimore Orioles games we attend each year, we almost always go with Stub Hub.

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks so.

I don't buy many tickets other than the AHL a few time a year and some AA baseball.

My son has used Stub Hub with success for bigger events.

If it's a special game, I'll just pay the extra money. Other than that I refuse to go to games or even pay for them on cable/satellite. Prices are just to high.

The owners get free or discounted stadiums and I have to pay to see the regular season games? No thanks!

I still get to see football, when that moves off over the air, I will have some extra time on Sundays.

I hate Ticketmaster. It's an anti-competitive monopoly. I wish more arenas or teams would do like the Red Sox and run their own online sales to try to defeat these gougers. For example, why can't the NFL ticket exchange operate without Ticketmaster? They could hire a firm to set up their own ticket exchange operation.
