Nope - 525 is one of the 9 that I still need. I've got one at PSA right now that has a real good shot at 8 along with a 693... So, I'll see whether I can make Carlos' day when my invoice pops...

As of June 19 PSA population report shows that there are seven cards with only two graded at PSA 8 NQ or higher in 1972 Topps: #178 Paul Schaal: 2 at PSA 8 and none at PSA 9 #296 Dick Dietz IA: 1 at PSA 8 and 1 at PSA 9 #409 Frank Baker: 2 at PSA 8 and none at PSA 9 #443 Ken Henderson: 2 at PSA 8 and none at PSA 9 #482 Joe Hoerner: 1 at PSA 8 and 1 at PSA 9 #532 Fred Kendall: 2 at PSA 8 and none at PSA 9 #693 Alan Gallagher: 2 at PSA 8 and none at PSA 9 By the way #525 Carlos May currently has 3 graded at PSA 8 and 1 at PSA 9.
This is a little scary - but it shows what you can find out if you have time on your hands...
1972 Topps: #178 Paul Schaal: 2 at PSA 8 and none at PSA 9------------me and John Constantino #296 Dick Dietz IA: 1 at PSA 8 and 1 at PSA 9----------------me and Andy Montero #409 Frank Baker: 2 at PSA 8 and none at PSA 9------------Erik Jarvi and some other lucky dog - not me #443 Ken Henderson: 2 at PSA 8 and none at PSA 9--------me and Erik Jarvi(from the Castaldi collection) #482 Joe Hoerner: 1 at PSA 8 and 1 at PSA 9-----------------me and anonymous collector #532 Fred Kendall: 2 at PSA 8 and none at PSA 9------------me and no idea... #693 Alan Gallagher: 2 at PSA 8 and none at PSA 9---------me and Carlos By the way #525 Carlos May currently has 3 graded at PSA 8 and 2 at PSA 9. ------Carlos, Jarvi, Neil Downey and I have the 9.
And don't forget!
#670 Ken Holtzman: 2 at PSA 1 and 1 at PSA 9-----------Jarvi has an 8 (from the Castaldi collection), no idea on the 2nd and I have the 9 #582 Expos Team: 3 at PSA 8 and 1 at PSA 9-------------me and Constantino have 8's - no idea on the other or the 9.

Looks like our corner on the Paul Schaal IA market has come to an end. The current Pop report now shows 5 in PSA 8. So, in a little more than a week - 3 new ones have made the grade.

I know what you mean about "tend to get creamed". I feel like I pull the toughest grader in the pool these days.
For some reason, the "In Action" cards in the 2nd and 3rd series seem to be predominantly off-center. The Schaal IA, Haller IA, Ellis IA and even the Kranepool IA are a tougher 8 to find. The same thing happens in the 3rd series with the McRae IA, Dietz IA, Mitterwald IA, Aaron IA and Pepitone IA - although the Frisella IA and Osteen IA which are smack dab in the middle of the run are relatively easy.
So, if I come across any of those mentioned above at a show, I snag em. I figure that I can always use the trade bait.

Wow, the jump in the Schaal IA is surprising. It goes to show that you shouldn't pay a fortune for low pop commons unless they are confirmed rare (e.g., low pop 50's commons). I'll definitely stay away from that '69 Shannon PSA 8 now!
Update on 1972 Topps Baseball cards with lowest population report: It shows that there are two cards with only two graded at PSA 8 NQ or higher as of July 5: #409 Frank Baker : 2 at PSA 8 and none at PSA 9 #443 Ken Henderson: 2 at PSA 8 and none at PSA 9
Other cards in previous list that increased in population since June 19: #178 Paul Schaal IA: 4 at PSA 8 and none at PSA 9 #296 Dick Dietz IA: 3 at PSA 8 and 1 at PSA 9 #482 Joe Hoerner: 2 at PSA 8 and 1 at PSA 9 #532 Fred Kendall: 3 at PSA 8 and none at PSA 9 #693 Alan Gallagher: 2 at PSA 8 and 1 at PSA 9
