1963 Topps baseball question - snow?

My 1963 Topps set has a large number of commons with "snow" or whatever. Is this very common with these cards?

Always looking for Mantle cards such as Stahl Meyer, 1954 Dan Dee, 1959 Bazooka, 1960 Post, 1952 Star Cal Decal, 1952 Tip Top Bread Labels, 1953-54 Briggs Meat, and other Topps, Bowman, and oddball Mantles.

It is common although I have no idea why. A gorgeous set by the way!

Yes, especially in the first and maybe second series.
  • It is common on many issues. It is very prevalent on 63's due to the colorful nature of the cards. I believe all series are effected by it.

Lots of snow in the early first series numbers except for the leaders. Then they cleared it up until the mid 300's as the Yogi Berra is famous for snow. The difference between Yogi with or without snow is night and day. Then it cleared up for the rest of the set. Cards with shady backgrounds behind players really brings it out. As #13 in the current master set I still am searching for a couple of cards to upgrade because of snow as it is a big bugaboo for me.
