White whale caught and is here!

Always excited to see this message from USPS, especially related to an item I really never thought I'd have an opportunity to add to my collection.

Special thanks to the seller for making it available and for answering my countless questions! Endless thanks to Tim (Grote15) for helping me to validate with some awesome subject matter expertise! As promised, drinks are on me at the National for your consulting services!

Wish I could leave the office early and be home when it arrives! Will take photos and post here ASAP.
Go Dodgers!

Oh God, Tim helped you. image

Can't wait to see what you got. You should move to the east coast so you can get home from work sooner. Hopefully, I'll get a chance to meet up with you this year in Chicago as I missed you in Cleveland. The HOF was cool though.

Also anxious to see what you picked up. If Tim helped you, it's either something unopened or old photos from one of the NYC Boroughs. My guess is unopened! image

I'll be home in a few hours!

Yep - It's unopened. Not ready to say what it is just yet since I still can't believe it's in the box at my house!

Mike - Looking forward to catching up with you in Chicago as well. Probably walked by each other multiple times in Cleveland!

Awesome photo Tim - Is that Genco Olive Oil down the street?

If I had to venture a guess, seeing that michael is a hockey guy I would say it's either a 64-65 hockey pack or whatever the oldest hockey wax tray is, 68-69 maybe?????

However, tim isn't a hockey guy but knows his trays so if it's not something hockey unopened its probably baseball and thus likely a very old wax tray, 69 maybe???

Since I won't be opening the contents, opening the box containing the contents is the next best thing!

This was so much fun - wanted to capture it every step of the way!

    image
The box was waiting for me when I got home

    image
Well packaged with lots of peanuts!

    image
The anticipation is starting to build!

    image
Almost as fun as opening my Christmas presents as a kid!

    image
I can see the holder edges now - I think it's actually in here!

Let me say now that I never expected having an opportunity to secure more than a wrapper from this issue, which I've been searching for years to acquire. The pack was never even part of my thought process, and even through a month of negotiations, I still never actually thought I could secure it.

    Okay - here it is!
    image
Wow - so much nicer than in the photos

Thanks so much for sharing in the excitement with me!

Nice blow by blow Michael. Congrats on a great pickup. Even though I don"t collect unopened hockey, I've seen a lot of it over the years and don"t ever recall seeing that pack. Nice centerpiece for the unopened hockey collection.

I only became aware of this through wrapper collecting, but Hockey material was not released in the US until 1968-69. As a result, all hockey unopened material and wrappers prior to that are incredibly rare. In some instances not more than a couple of packs or display boxes are known to exist. Great score!

I'm sure this cost a pretty penny...but still a bargain by today's standards, because I bet it was still less than a 1976 baseball wax box is these days, and I'd certainly rather have this pack!!

Congrats on a great pick up. Looks terrific! Always nice to see somebody harpoon a whale. Tim is a wealth of knowledge and is generous in sharing it with those who ask. We are lucky to have him here on the boards.

not familiar with these packs, but it looks like it says Topps on the flip, but OPC on the reverse of the pack.

Prior to 1968, the hockey sets were only distributed in Canada. So I believe they were designed by Topps but printed and distributed by OPC in Canada.
