Wax Stains on the Back

I've heard that you can remove wax stains on the back of a card by rubbing it with a slight abrasive. Is that true of a card like this? If so, what's the best way to do it?

I would be worried about rubbing too much and revealing the punchline.
  • I remember reading once that pantyhose would remove some wax stains rather gently.

I heard that a little lighter fluid will work, but with the hidden word thingy it could bring that out.

On front of card, yes, that works very well, but on back it just makes stain darker due to the porosity of the cardboard.

There was a guy, Dick Towel?, who supposedly specialized in using a solvent to remove wax from the back of cards. There's much debate about how successful this is and whether it should be considered an alteration.

  • Soaking it can completely remove a wax stain. Gum stains can be removed the same way but usually won't remove it all. Wouldn't try it on a card like.

except that around here that would be the rough equivalent to repeating the knock-knock joke which ends with "orange you glad i stopped saying banana?"
  • My most sincere apologies to you and Mr. Towel.

His site is gonewiththestain.com and his name is Dick Towle. If you want the stain out, he's your man (at least of the ones that advertise)
