Thoughts on displaying the certification number...?

Hey guys,

Ive been more of a collector than a seller. But have been refocusing my collection. I have some good relationships with CU members here but out on the internet its a whole different world.

so when sending off scans or displaying them on ebay, are you guys masking the graded cards certification number or it isn't that big of a deal?
Just wanted to get some opinions on which way to go.

    I hide the cert numbers on the cards imaged in my set registry sets, but if I'm selling a card I show it. I don't see any reason not to.

    I think when you're selling, showing that cert number is a MUST. Buyer has to be able to check it.

    Mine are shown, but I certainly wouldn't do that if I didn't have the cert entered into my inventory. I keep the number in my inventory until the card has been safely delivered (not just sold). This practice has saved me in the past when someone claimed they never received an item I shipped but also went ahead and tried to add the cert to their registry. When PSA said the number was already registered and asked them to email them fresh scans, it proved they had received the card and falsely filed the claim of not having received it.

    I'll PM you with why I do not display certs on my registry set. One of those things where I don't want to give people ideas...

    Registry guys steal certsoff eBay all the time. Caught a few of my cards in sets before when I still own them

    ... which is why I'd recommend you always keep all your certs entered into "My Inventory" on the registry part of the PSA website, even if you are not participating in building any registry sets.


    One reason why you might not show a cert on a card is if you are afraid someone is going to print a fake label based on yours and assemble a counterfeit holder w/ label to sell a fake card.

    That's true, but, unless you have a one-of-a-kind card, there are many available on VCP that are only a few clicks away.

    ETA: Not saying you shouldn't do this, but I'm just trying to get over the mental hurdle of "does this make a meaningful difference?" before spending the time to do it on each card.

    I used to worry about this.

    I no longer do. I'm really trying, throughout 2015, to show front and back scans of all the PSA graded cards I own and share on the Registry.

    I find that a chore in and of itself. Removing the certs just adds more time to do so. There is always going to be some bad behaviour, no matter what you do. I've decided that I use the Registry primarily for an organizational tool for myself. Thus, the certs and full card display is fine by me.

    I agree--I show all certs. far too much of a chore and not worth the effort for me.

    no matter what people will scam--with or without my certs and I do not think having mine shown makes a whole lot of difference

    This. I too think it's a lesser issue these days. It's too easy to bust sellers who try to sell cards they don't own. If they don't get caught before the sale, they'll get caught shortly thereafter.
