question about Burbank Sportscards

Has anyone had experience buying modern raw cards from them?
If I buy cards listed as nm/mt are they likely to be all off centered and picked over for mint cards, etc, or might there be mint cards included? These would not be high value singles, mostly cheap stuff.
I am buying and trading for RC's of Wilt Chamberlain, George Mikan, Bill Russell, Oscar Robertson, Jerry West, and Bob Cousy!
Don't waste your time and fees listing on ebay before getting in touch me by PM or at gregmo32@aol.com !

  • I've had mixed results. Bought several that seemed NM-MT+, then got a 5 card lot of one player that was all EX-MT. I complained and the seller requested that I ship the $4 worth of cards back to them--wasn't worth the hassle to pursue further.

I have ordered from them quite a few times. I will order multiples of the card I want. Usually 5 to 10 of the same card. I will then pick through them for the 2 or 3 best. Nothing I have ever received has been off center, but you will most likely get some cards with a dinged corner or edge chipping if its a card with color. Also, they normally put all the cards together in one of those wide top loaders for the thicker patch cards. Things can really be hit or miss with them. I do have a few at PSA right now from them, so we shall see how they grade out. Not expecting 10's, but hopeful for some 9's.

I've had mixed results. Once had the corners all dinged(packaging was less than desirable). Was forced to mail them back before sending new ones.

You have a better chance of Mint or Gem cards from Burbank than from other operations that have graded and raw selling accounts. I'm not aware of Burbank submitting any of their cards for grading.

I buy Tippett cards from them. I'm not in search of gem cards in general, nor expecting that from that specific seller, so I'm always satisfied with the results. Most, if not all, would grade an 8 or 9 if I was inclined to submit them. But I'm not.

Good selection; good service. Cards are decent - nr/mt - mint. I continue to order low dollar items from them when they have stuff I want. No problems.

I had tremendous success buying tough to find Grif refractors from them back in the day. 100% PSA 9 or 10 was my experience.

This is accurate. They don't use a grading service. They use to use GAI when Mike Baker was doing the grading but any graded they have in stock is from at least a few years ago.

Bought from Rob and Stephen since 1994. Only issue in 20 years was a couple cards got dinged in shipping on one order, and that was corrected quick. Modern issues I think they do a damn fine job with image

Because I submit for registry, I don't typically buy from dealers who dont scan their cards. Because they have such a large supply, that's fine but I like to see the card before I buy. Based on my epxerience with BS, I expect NM-MT at best, which all their cards are typically listed as anyway (at least for Mattingly).

Skrezyna, are you saying Burbank doesn't provide photos? I always buy from them via ebay and have no problems.

    Dan,

The auctions I see on ebay from BS are stock photos. "Many of our images are catalog photos. They are a representation of the actual card." They did tell me that when they look through duplicates they choose the best looking one. Aside from that, I have never had an issue with them. I usually buy from them off Beckett marketplace.

They use stock photos, not necessarily the card you will receive.

This has been my experience as well. Not a huge fan, I believe they have a habit of over grading their cards. Great selection, fair prices and reasonable shipping.

Other than the pricing I have no complaints. Corners, edges are always mint but you are taking a chance on centering (I get modern post 1992 from them a fair bit).
Always looking for 1993-1999 Baseball Finest Refractors and1994 Football Finest Refractors.

    From their auctions:

    Please Note the Following

+1, there was a time you could find decent deals especially when buying enough to get free shipping, but now it seems like they align with Beckett high/$1.25 minimum per card.

Bought with them about a half dozen time over the past 2-3 years. No issues. I treat them like Sport lots. If I am looking to get a gem 10 I buy 10 of the card. I also send them this note prior to bidding.

Hi, I am looking to have an opportunity to try and get a PSA 10 of (insert Packer Player here) for my registry. I understand I can't cherry pick through dozens of your cards but if I buy 10 cards of said player could you make sure I get two or three cards that you believe are the best copies you have of said card.

They always reply, of course we will do what we can but can't guarantee a 10 but we will do our best.

This works well for me but again I am buying near common Packer Players

Just had a couple of Burbank cards that popped yesterday. One came back a 10, the other a 9. Not too bad for $1 cards. I did buy 5-10 of each card and those were the 2 best. I have a few more in another sub that should pop soon.

I personally wouldn't buy a card on eBay with a stock photo.

They're a great place to go if you're looking for cheap ~$1 cards to turn into a PSA 9 or 10. Like others have said, buy multiples, grade the best ones, sell off the rest.

+1 on buying multiple cards of the same one from them when you shop. I've had mixed results on vintage, usually a full grade lower than advertised, but modern has been good through them. Vintage works if you calculate what you're willing to pay for a grade lower than they say and the price still lines up for your needs.

For a few years, Burbank offered their same cards on Sportlots as they do on Beckett Marketplace and ebay, but the same card on Sportlots was listed for significantly higher cost than the other sources due to the higher fees Sportlots charges its sellers. I just took a look and I didn't notice them on Sportlots anymore. Their seller ID there is (or was) philstop, so if you happen to be on Sportlots and see a card offered by philstop that you want, go and look it up on Beckett Marketplace under Burbank and you'll get the same card from the same seller for less.
