Help with Starting Lineup Talking Baseball

Hey Guys,

Been trying to build my Tony Gwynn collection, but I'm having issues with the 1988 Starting Lineup Talking Baseball cards. I've been looking at a few buy lists from dealers I have dealt with and they list the cards differently so I'm not sure what I'm looking at. From what I can see. There were two cards made. One with a photo of Gwynn and one with a drawing of Gwynn. I have the photo but cannot find the drawing. Upon Further research it seems as if the drawing card came as a team set with the cartridges for the game. So that accounts for two cards.

Here is the list of cards I have compiled looking at dealer lists. It is possible that some of these cards are the same card, just listed differently. That's what I'm trying to find out:

1. Starting Lineup Talking Baseball #21b - Photo, I have
2. Starting Lineup Talking Baseball Team Set - Drawing, I need
3. Starting Lineup All-Stars #13 - No idea. It is listed on 2 different listings that I use. One listing is the Trading Card Database - http://www.tradingcarddb.com/Person.cfm/pid/2320/col/1/yea/1988/Tony-Gwynn?PageIndex=2&sTeam=&sCardNum=&sNote=&sSetName=
4. Starting Lineup Padres #5 - No idea. My guess is it also the team set card, just listed differently.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Chris

I have a full set of Talking Baseball Team Sets and the All Star cards. I only know of 2 Gwynn cards. The All Star with the photo, and the Team Set with the drawing.
The Talking Baseball and All Star are the same card. The normal set that came with the game was considered the All Star set. It looks like this...

Team Sets and Padres are the same card. Note that this card has the All Star banner in the background, but all of the Gwynn Team Set cards have the blue stars and stripes banner.

Thanks for the quick reply. I agree that the Padres card and the team set card are the same (not sure why one dealer lists the card as #5, is there a number on the back of yours?). I guess what is confusing me is the card numbers. Take this listing for the All-Star cards. http://www.tradingcarddb.com/ViewAllSet.cfm/sid/85822 It shows the Gwynn as card #13, but the card number on the picture of the card you posted shows #21 (which I also have). I have also noticed if you look at the pictures on the link I provided, the card number does not match that of the listing. So what you're saying seems to be true, only 2 cards. What I don't understand is why I'm finding lists that don't match the card.

None of the cards have actual numbers on them.
The All Star Gwynn says Player number 21 on the back. Not sure if this has something to do with the actual Talking Baseball game play or what since Gwynn was number 19.
The checklist from the link you provided (tradingcarddb) puts the cards in alphbetical order and then give them a number based on where the player lies on that list. Thus giving Gwynn the 13.
So, the Talking baseball or All Star can be called either 21, or 13 depending on what you look at, but the card itself does not have a number.

The Team Set or Padres card is called #5 because on the the team header card gives each card a number, and Gwynn is number 5 in the Padres team set. Again, the card itself doesn't have a number. The number only appears on the header card. Each team set will have a number 5, so this number can be confusing.

Wow, look at those '87 stats!

.370 with 56 extra base hits, 56 SBs, 119 runs. Awesome!

I've always liked Gwynn and was sad to see him pass away. I've got a graded copy of his Donruss RC and would like to add his Topps RC some day.
