Does this look like a PSA 8 to you?

In theory - this should be a great card. Is this another fake flip?

No, that does not look like an 8. If I subbed that card I would expect a 4 or a 5 coming back.

No, it most certainly does not.

Soft corners all the way around.

  • Looks like either a strong 5 or a weak 6 to me.

Edited because I just noticed the scuffing/print issue on the left lower border. This card should be a PSA 5 all day long.

I believe PSA is a little more lenient on the Topps Mexican sets, because they're incredibly tough to find in high grade - but this one seemed like a stretch. With that said, I was curious if this might be another fake flip.

Okay, I found a few more PSA 8's from this set listed on eBay - and it must be a case of leniency on PSA's part towards this particular issue. The labels look good to me, but the cards just don't match the grade. example #2

  • There is a certain way those Topps Mexican cards are graded and the corners typically have perforated tears. This one looks a bit more lenient though.

Not even close. I sure hope the graders are that generous on my next submission.

It's a PSA 4! Two big nicks on the right edge. And it looks like some kind of flaw under the letters of his first name.

    Another mistake by PSA?

The seller says the card is pack fresh. Those packs must have been sitting on the back of a pickup in Mexico for 30 years

If you were to ask a novice card collector who saw an OPC rough cut if it should grade high they would say no.

    Perhaps this is something similar.

With the huge print dot, top to bottom centering, four un dagger like corners and heavy chipping I would think it would be in the 2 to 4 range at most.

If someone has VCP look up some prior sold examples and see if they match.

Maybe this ump needs new specs, but I say it's a crackout, slip-in and reseal job. That right edge of the case is not straight.

It probably has a chance at a Gem Mint 10 with some, not to be named, TPGs. Looks like a 4 to me.

thanks duck. thought my eyes were goin' flippy floppy, too. the lower right edge is missing a piece of the plastic rim to the case. agree with your opinion.

Real flip/case, but this is yet another example of a mech error that occurred on the grade portion of the label. It really does happen frequently enough. There was a recent thread about a Jabbar card that also had a mech error on the label too.

Seems like some folks don't realize these are perforated cards. Still looks generous for an 8 though
