Unopened question

If I win this auction for say $600, get a box cheap, and get it wrapped by BBCE, could I then sell it for say a $1000 and still see a decent profit?

Loose packs

The seller said these are from a damaged sealed case.

If they packs are good and you have an empty 1980 Topps Box, then you should make money if your purchase price is $600.

Edit: However, posting the auction prior to it ending will not be in your best interest.

A BBCE box retails for about $850.

This right here. Although your thirst for knowledge is understood, I'd imagine you just put the squeeze on any potential margin.

This seller has sold several of these lots previously, also.

I don't think its worth doing if a BBCE sealed box is 850.

How would someone come across so many loose packs. I don't see much any handling wear on the packs. Maybe they were trays or racks at one time?

I've seen that picture before. I'm thinking it must be a stock picture used as some else mentioned the seller has sold lots before.

I'm pretty sure the seller has used the same picture for all of his lots he has sold. I've seen this one in an earlier auction.

Correct. The packs may be fine but I'd feel more confident as a buyer if photos weren't stock photos, were more detailed and the packs came with the original boxes.

I suspect where the lot ends + BBCE fee & shipping + eBay/Paypal fees = little, if any, profit to be had.

Especially when the last few have been changing hands at under $900USD, over 10% off from where they peaked last year.

I have that auction on my watch list. The other ones that they sold were selling for $700 +/- a few dollars. I don't think this lot will sell for that much. I'm guessing around $650. BBCE has boxes listed for $995. With shipping and fees you would be into the box for close to $750. Wrapped boxes are selling for $860-875 on Ebay.

IIRC his other lots shot up in price late near the auction ending. I'd be surprised if it ended less than $700. But you need an empty box and then pay for shipping to and from Steve plus $50 wrap fee (assuming the packs pass authenticity) and you're better off just buying a wrapped box, imo, rather than one pieced together like this one. Unless you plan to rip~hint, hint, Chris. image

I just wish you collected football as well so I could pry even more knowledge out of you than I already have.
