Which McCovey would you rather have

Well I've decided to take advantage of my 5x ebay bucks offer. I would like to pick up a McCovey rookie and there happens to be 2 PSA 8's listed now with exactly the same price. So based on the card alone which one would you suggest I buy? I'm leaning toward the one that is slightly off center top to bottom. The diamond cut bothers me a little on the other one, but it's not that bad. Neither card is perfect but I could live with them. I will buy one later tonight based on the responses here. Unless someone else buys it before me.

  • Top. The fisheye on the bottom is killer.

Agreed. I would go with the top one.
I cannot hit curveball. Straightball I hit it very much. Curveball, bats are afraid.

I'd go top one. The diamond cut plus having a huge fish eye on the bottom one.

    Top one. Not even close.
  • I would buy neither of them and wait for a nicer 8 to come along.

(but if you absolutely have your heart set on buying one of these.... DEFINITELY the top one.)

Agreed. The fisheye is a MAJOR distraction in #2.
Is the registration off a bit in #1 or is it the scan? I noticed that the lettering on the flip is a bit blurry as well, but I'd want to make sure the registration is sharp. Maybe ask for another pic?

    +1.

The top one is clearly the better of the two in my eye... it ain't even close.

But I wouldn't be happy with the top example's centering either... and while I suspect the blur is due to the scan vs. card registration, I wouldn't bid before knowing for sure.

The top one. That big yellow fisheye in the green kills the lower one for me.

Top one by a country mile.
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."

Thanks guys. Just went and purchased the top one. I can definitely live with the centering on this one. Time to start hunting for the next card.

This one was pretty nice too. However, it is not PSA...
